In a very few days I will fall into that category. I love where I am, but my husband....not so much. He agreed to give it a year, and he is still miserable here. Soooo, we close on 2/28 and will be back in FL that day.

From my experience very few. I grew up here and many of the people I grew up with have moved away. When they come back to visit say a parent you always hear the same comments, "I would never move back here". Same at high school reunions.

My mother moved around 30 years ago from Coral Gables and lived in places such as Chicago and Central and Northern Virginia. She moved back to Florida to the Tampa area around 3 years ago and now wants to get the heck out again....

Guess it's not the same.... (but after 30 years, what is???)

As a retired military member I have many friends returning upon retirement from the military because their experience in the state was superb. Many purchased a home early in their career and now are living well and enjoying life to the fullest. Our area has close to 40K active and retired members. The Tampa area, Satellite Beach, Melbourne, Palm Bay, Jville, Panama City, Fort Walton Beach, and Pcola have many of the active and retired miliatry members.

I was born in Lakeland Florida in 1962....lived in Florida for the first 30 years of my life.
For the past 15 years, due to unfortunate circumstances, I have lived in the Chicago area. As of June 2007 I will be back in Florida never to go North of interstate 10 again! Im the type of person who likes to be outdoors. I suppose I could do that here but most of the year you would freeze to death....Im trying to avoid that. If the couch potato deal is your thing then the north is for you...but if you actually like to live life rather than watch it Florida, Cali etc is the way to go.

My husband and I left Florida 16 years ago after living in St. Pete, Clearwater and Hudson. We are returning this summer after being in Europe (Greece) where we have raised our children. Our son is at FAU and we are excited to get back to Florida. It will be different of course, so are we. Wish us luck!

ssgt and others have hit it right on the head. Florida is for people who love the outdoors, exercising, fishing, tennis, golf, etc. and are not afraid to sweat. It is not for the majority of people, and lets face it, about 70% of Americans are overweight coach potatoes.

I have a feeling the vast majority of negative postings on this forum are from people who are not into the outdoors and physical activity. Obviously in the summer when it is hot and humid you can go swimming as your activity and to keep cooler. If you are not an active person who realizes that sweating is healthy, than I suppose Florida has a lot less to offer you than it does us.

Our family had to leave Florida for the last 2 years on business and can not wait to get back in 6 months.

.
Or did it occur to you that some that are into the outdoors prefer hills, mountains and whitewater instead of flat, hot and alligator infested.....

I mean seriously now. Is one more likely to come jogging to a stop and decide to go swimming in any old lake in Tennessee, or in Florida??? Which sounds safer to you??

In other words, I think your assessment is way off unless "in to the outdoors" to you is year round golf.....

That is the number one motivator for us moving. I cant stand being couped up. It has been so cold here up North the past two weeks all you can do is run to your car or wherever your going just to keep warm. It is to cold to even want to go outside. I feel like a bird in a cage. I like to be able to go out and sit on my porch or take a walk or anything other than this. Even in the summer in FL during the dead of heat after the sun goes down you can go outside for a breath of air and enjoy the stars.
