Hello, I'm looking to relocate to the Marion/Lake county area from Ft. Lauderdale. We want to get away from the big city feel and move to a small friendly town/city. We have 2 young boys so we're looking for a place with decent schools. We would like to buy a home with acreage. Would like to have shops and have things to do within a reasonable driving distance. Where would be the best place that fits our criteria? Help me out with good and bad/pros and coins. Thank you.

Largely the schools in those two counties aren't the best, however you might check out Ocala which has two very good high schools (Ocala Vanguard HS and Lake Weir HS) which have similarly good elementary/middle feeder schools. Vanguard's school district is more or less the northeast side of Ocala in what is an established area around Silver Springs, with Lake Weir on the far SE side of the metro are and more rural, with lots of new construction in/around Lady Lake and The Villages.

Did you guys find a place to move? I'm originally from Ft Lauderdale but moved to WI about 3 years and now wanting to move to SC to get away from the cold winters. It would really be nice to hear some feedback from someone who is familiar with some of the places I am and how they compare to SC. I've been looking mostly in the Lexington/Columbia area but trying to keep my options open. I have kids ages 13, 9 & 7 so we're looking for good schools too which Lexington/Columbia have but the rent is a little higher than what I've gotten used to here lol
