Danish family moving to Naples- HELP
Hello
We are moving to Naples in February, my husband is goint to study in Naples Air Center. We have 3 children ( 0. 4 and 6 years old).
I can see from this forum that many people are leaving naples and do not find it a good place to raise children.
We are going to live there for a year, we have never been in usa before and hope someone here kan help me :
We would like to live near the airport, near a good public school and near shopping and in a children-friendly neighbourhood.
Where would be a good place to live ? I have found a lot of available apartmens, but I do not know if the neighbourhood is okay.
Is it possible to rent an apartment with furniture, or are there any shops with 2.hand furniture ?
Anything we should be aware of ?
I hope you understand my questions, my English isn't very good, sorry

Apartment rentals are nearly always unfurnished. I would not want my child living in any apartment in Naples. This is not a positive enviornment.
Your best bet would be to rent a house or condo for a year. You can get those furnished but you will pay more. Generally any gated community will be safe. Most condo complexes are OK. Single family home areas can vary.
There are plenty of second hand shops and you can always rent furniture.
The Naples area has plenty of shopping so don't worry about that.
I would research the school very, very carefully. Schools do not have a good reputation. I do not have any kids in the school system so hopefully someone could comment.
You will need a car. February is the peak season and traffic will be awful.
If you give me the names of apartments or schools or the neighborhoods where you are looking I could be more specific.
It would be helpful to know how much you want to spend on housing.

Thank you for your help.
We hope to be able to find a home for max 1200$ a month. We would like to live near the airport, I think it is lake park elementary school in that zone. I'll have to get back to you with adress for the apartments we have found, I don't have it here.

Naples advice
The scoop on Naples? Actually an okay place to raise kids. Avoid the Golden Gate and East Naples areas. Best Elementary schools? Seagate, Pelican Marsh, Veteran's Memorial, and Vineyards. Lots of nice communities in the North Naples area. The neighborhoods off of Orange Blossom drive are lovely but, pricey. Boca Palms and Victoria Park are loaded with families with children and would provide your husband with a 20 minute commute time to the airport. The housing market has been tough, so you may be able to get into a rental home at the price you had mentioned.

The airport is in the Shadowlawn district. Zone 19 in the map below.

I agree with the poster who suggested the neighborhoods in North Naples. I also agree with the Timberwood suggestion. That is close to the airport and shopping, although traffic will be intense at the Pine Ridge/Airport intersection. Traffic will be bad everywhere in season.
I'm not that familiar with the rental market but I would think you could get something decent for that price.

River Reach apartments are also within walking distance of the airport. I have heard mixed reports about this place, but know someone who lives there who has had no problems. they even have access to the Gordon River if your family is into fishing.
They have a website. Just search for River Reach Naples. They only have 1 and 2 bedrooms units available, however. The 2-bed units are $1,089/month.

Hello
Thanks for your answers. 2 bedroom is not enough for us.We need a room for guests. I have 2 boys with my x-husband and he is going to visit us several times during our stay and he is going to live at our place. It is going to be expensive for him to travel so far to see his kids, so we have told him he can live at our place.
I have found this on a website, does anyone know this area ?
Brittany Bay Apartments

Naples, FL 34119
Summer Lakes 2

Naples, FL 34109
Windsong Club

Heron Park

Villas of Capri

I hope anyone can help, We arrive in Miami 6. february with no place to live. We will find a hotel in Miami for the 1. day until we have bought a car ( we have been told its cheaper to buy a car in miami) and then drive to Naples and find a place to live. And we have 3 chilldren at the age of 6 month, 4 years and 6 years so we would like to find something soon.

Brittany Bay-No. A co worker moved out because of all the drug dealing.
Summer Lakes-These are brand new in a nice area but it is about 15 miles to the airport. It is an extremely good location for shopping and right next to the interstate. The drawback is Immokalee road is congested and always under construction.
Windsong-Right next to Summer lakes. These would be OK but they tend to have lower income tenants.
Blue Heron and Villas of Capri-No to both. They are very close to the airport but it is a third world country. Unless you speak Spanish you won't be able to talk to your neighbors.
Without a doubt Summer Lakes is in the best area for schools.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to have housing before you get here. You are arriving at peak season and if you don't have something lined up you may have trouble getting a hotel room.
Do not arrive in Miami without a hotel reservation.
Have you considered renting a house or condo?
It is cheaper to buy a car in Miami. You may want to consider leasing for a year to avoid the hassle of selling when you leave.

Thank you for your advise.
Yes we have considered house or condo, but we have not found anything yet. We have found MANY apartments for rent. But we hoped that it would be possible for us to get to Naples before aplying. We would like to see the area before deciding were to live. I can see we have to book a hotel very soon.
If we rent a house- do we have any security/ are there any protection from law so we don't ret thrown out if the landlord/owner hasn't paid the mortage?

You protect yourself by making sure that the landlord is current on their mortgage payments. You also should have the security deposit put into escrow.
You can look up the property on the internet and see if a lis pendens ( public records information about property that there is litigation pending that could effect title to the property) document has been filed.
You are much better of renting a furnished home if you are trying to save money.
I sent you a list of rental property ideas on the PM
