How Do Florida Wages Differ By Location?
I'm curious if wages are higher or lower based on similar work but in a different area of the state. I'm not interested in government stats. I want real life experience. So I ask a couple questions:
What jobs pay best in your area?
Is college required for most jobs in your area?
What innovative jobs are being explored in your area?
Do you find more minimum wage type jobs available or more professional requests?
Thanks ahead of time.

The Medical field pays the best in my area. College degree yes, but it's not guarantee. I have met people who have PhD's that were selling cars or doing odd jobs because they can't get decent pay. Same goes for teachers, Masters Degree and get offered $30K/year.
Well they are pushing Biotech here but it's a long way off.
Minimum wage jobs in Florida are higher then normal, being most jobs are service based.

Thanks. I'm in North Central Florida - Between Gainesville and Ocala.
Sales jobs, restaurants, clerks are most popular.
Lot of minimum wage horse jobs: Grooming, horse walking.
Health Care industry is hiring as are jails.
People have lawn care, house cleaning, handyman jobs.
Salary range is about $ 25K and up. To make more you have to be creative and start your own business which fills a need.
College is requested but not always required. Experience helps.
A family member just took a job working at a youth rehab facility at $ 11 per hour.

Trouble is that you need to make at least 100,000 a year to afford a decent place to live. Labor type jobs do not generate that source of income.

What jobs pay best in your area? In the Fort Walton Beach area the Aerospace Industry is very large, aircraft mechanics starting at $50K...
Is college required for most jobs in your area? Not for the mechanics or technicians, they require A&P certification. Engineers and Management a must.. Staring in the $65K
What innovative jobs are being explored in your area? I believe the IT world is starting to pick up, but is more related to government contractor jobs.
Do you find more minimum wage type jobs available or more professional requests? We have more of the specialist/mechanical based on our industry...

I'm curious Sunrico90, what IT jobs are picking up in that area? Have the IT jobs in that area leveled off in the salary area? Or are those jobs still paying in the upper ranges?
Thanks

Our guys are getting pay in the mid $50K range and we had one that move to another company with a $10K pay increase, not bad for this area. Not many of the good paying available. I read a newspaper report a few months back that a new company was moving to northwest Florida and was adding many IT jobs, got to find the report.

I would think wages are pretty similar across the state --- not enough.

Report: Florida diversifying industries, wages improving
Some highlights of the new report:
# Florida's economy has grown at a rapid pace in recent years. The state's population, employment, and business output all increased at rates well above the national average, and the unemployment rate reached a historic low.
# Florida appears to be making progress in creating high-quality jobs. Per capita income, wages, and productivity all are growing more rapidly than the national average.
# A decrease in the migration of residents from other states to Florida and a correction in the overheated housing market point to a slowing of growth in the short term. However, Florida's long-term prospects remain strong, particularly if progress continues in diversifying the economy with high-technology industries, such as life sciences and aerospace.
# Florida primary and middle school test scores are promising, and high school graduation rates have improved from 62 percent in 2000 to 71 percent in 2006, but it is still too low for a competitive economy. Florida ranks 46th nationally in high school graduation rates.
