Most college towns are going to have a walkable commercial core near campus and decent bus system because a fairly high percentage of students can't afford to keep a car while they're at school. The key is to find out where grad students cluster for housing instead of the age 18-24 undergrad party scene. I really do think you've got three good options there from a quality of life standpoint, provided your spouse is okay with rough Buffalo winters.

Go with the research options that sounds coolest.

Generally speaking, I would place Texas A & M and UF above Buffalo in reputation.
And by a fair margin. UF also is a bit above TAMU in national reputation. That said the much vaunted "Gator Nation" has nothing on the "Aggie Cult". A neutral observer might give a slight bump to UF, but a TAMU alum will pull a lot more strings for a fellow Ag than a UF alum will for another UF alum.

Guys, thank you for all the information you have given me. Unfortunately I had to decline UB's offer of admission.

The two biggest reason why are: the University itself, and Buffalo's last 50 declining years. Although each time I revise my decision it gets harder to accept, I needed to move on, as the deadline from UB was to early.

For now, I still have Texas A&M, University of Florida, and just got an offer from Virginia Tech as well, at the Alexandria Campus.

I would appreciate any inputs on this new scenario!

Thnaks!

TAMU is a nationally recognized university with a international graduate base. Now, you can pick up a car for $3K in College Station that will suffice for your time there. You will find much more freedom with a car than trying to rely on public transportation. Tote-note dealers will work with you, low monthly payments.

Houston is an easy drive south for weekends.

Thank you Restrain. Yes, buying a car is on my list now.

And what one can tell about the weather year round at College Station?
Also, are Tornados/Twister something frequent, and worry worthy?

Guys, I want to thank all the help and informations you gave me.

I am back to let you know that I choose University of Florida at Gainesville after much, much deliberation. It was a really hard call.

I will be arriving at FL this fall. Hope I can give some good feedback after some time there.

I've never been to the other places, but I loved UF/Gainesville.

Congrats and welcome to the Gator Nation!! I just posted on your "where to live in Gainesville" thread. As you'll see, my vote is for Haile Plantation. Enjoy your time in Hog Town.
