Try areas to the south of Tallahassee too - such as Crawfordville (suburb-y), Woodville (woods-y), or St. Marks (Jimmy Buffet-y). There are about 90-something homes in the area that are around $200k - $250k. The monitor on this site doesn't allow any real estate advertising, so you will have to do your own research.

Tallahassee really doesn't have eclectic or artsy 'neighborhoods'... There may be a house or two that would stand out as artsy or eclectic in various neighborhoods, but there are also run-down HUD homes in the same areas. Spanish Moss grows on every tree here, so some areas may LOOK the part...

What do you think about Railroad Square (I think it's called the "All Saints" area?), where there's an "up and coming" neighborhood that might be worth looking into. Railroad Square is the artist district, so someone into that funky eclectic vibe might enjoy it.

I haven't really explored that area thoroughly, but I always thought that part of town was kind of shabby. One of the two good local music venues is in that area (Beta Bar), but so are a lot of college houses. It may be the artsy side of town, but I would not want to live around there.

That area is comparable to the area around the Paradise Restaurant and Bar, except there aren't any frat houses or burned-out warehouses. Just north of downtown, where Thomasville Road and Monroe split, there are typical artsy-style venues. Coffee shops, an independant film movie theater, over-priced snooty restaurants, an Irish pub, etc... It may not have an open-air art festival, but it has everything else.

I know I'm a year late for this party, but I'll chime in anyway. Railroad Square isn't really a neighborhood. It's one tiny little block that doubles as an art district. There are galleries and workshops, but no real homes. The only homes (mostly apartments/condos) nearby (within a 1-mile radius) aren't what most people would call nice, but they're livable. Somewhat. Depends on your tolerance for loud college students.
