Default Can you live in a beautiful neighborhood in Tallahassee for around $250,000 or so?

Near parks and shops etc. Family friendly?

I would hope so, because that sure is a nice area... if it werent so far away from the rest of FL, I'd probably try to convince my wife to move up there. A big difference from the Miami's, Tampa's, and Orlando's ofthe state.

Coming from NYC, I hope you are looking for a big change.

Yes, you can. Check out Southwood (I used to live there, would have LOVED to have grown up there as a kid, and think it's the perfect place to raise a family) in Southeast Tallahassee (You can find 3 bedroom townhomes well below that price range, and I've seen 3 bedroom single family homes in that price range as well) and Northeastern Tallahassee (Killearn area).

Thx. Is NE Tallahassee more family friendly than Southwood? Are there neighborhoods other than Killearn that offer homes in the the $200's? We like established neighborhoods, no brand new developments. Single family only. Thanks again for your help. Oh, it seems that the best schools are in the NE. Is the private school, Mcclay or something like that better than the best public schools? Any privates that are wonderful?

One final question: what is Southwood's zip code??

32311, according to the Southwood neighborhood contact information. Now that looks like the old FL I remember!!! Southern, quiet, and friendly. What a nice area I bet it is up that way...

I don't know much about Killearn, just that it's a bit out of the way.

The other "nice" area of Tallahassee is Betton Woods, etc., but that is a very upscale and expensive area.

Southwood is not an old neighborhood, but don't judge it until you visit. It was built to resemble traditional neighborhoods, and the homes have an old South Southern charm. Some homes in your price range:

Single Family Home - 4063 Swift Way, TALLAHASSEE, FL, 32311 - Realtor.com

Single Family Home - 3259 Newberry Blvd, TALLAHASSEE, FL, 32311 - Realtor.com

Single Family Home - 3610 Four Oaks, TALLAHASSEE, FL, 32311 - Realtor.com

Here is Southwood's website: Homes & Real Estate for Sale Tallahassee Florida – SouthWood Homes & Tallahassee Real Estate | The St. Joe Company

and here is a website some old friends of ours in Southwood made with some good pics: Southwood, Tallahassee Florida Photo Gallery

Of course, if Southwood isn't for you, the best person to talk to is a realtor!

Thanks for your response. Southwood is definitely not for us. In our price range, the houses are on top of each other and small. I'm sure it is different in the higher price ranges. I will check out the NE real estate some more. I saw some 2000+ sq ft houses with pools in the 200's. Not sure if the areas are good though. My husband is allergic to new developments even if they are nice,)

Good luck! I'd post some links in other areas that I think you'd like, but some _____ accused me of spamming real estate links, so I'm not going to take my chances!

But please note: I do not live in Tallahassee, nor do I have any vested interest in Tallahassee real estate.

As a single guy, I don't need a lot of space. Are there nice homes in older neighborhoods for $125-150,000?

Also, are there any eclectic or artsy old neighborhoods...not "hoity-toity" neighborhoods, but those catering to artsy people.
