Keiser is an expensive private technical and business school. It is not comparable to University of Central Florida, Rollins College, or Stetson College as far as prestige and quality of education. That doesn't mean that you can't get an education there, but it is geared more for people who do not want the 4 year college experience, but really just want what it takes to get a degree in a particular technical field.

There are lots of opportunities in the medical fields in Central Florida. Hospitals include:ORMC, Florida Hospital(s) (about 5 of them), Arnold Palmer and Winnie Palmer hospitals, Sand Lake Hospital, and South Seminole Hospital, . There are large medical practices that have their own radiology departments - like Jewett and others. Florida Hospital has gobbled up many of the other hospitals UCF will be getting a medical school and this will draw even more medical professionals to this area. Vallencial College has an excelent nursing and medical tech school.

Thanks, for the info.
As usual with schools today alot of the Florida schools make you take alot of Prereq courses
Even with a four year degree in Biology she still has to take one class before you can even apply for the actual medical program.

I'm not sure how it is in the Orlando area, but in the Tampa Bay area there are plenty of jobs in the medical field.

Something I've done with surprising success...

You might consider calling the HR dept of the local hospitals and radiology centers in that area and ask them their opinion/advice on what schools they prefer. Just explain your situation, that you are moving to the area and want to go into the field and want to choose the best school that they are looking for on the resume. You may be surprised at how open HR are to giving advice and helping steer your career in the right direction. You may even get an invitation to interview when you finish... It's an easy job contact and will put you ahead of others looking for that job because they will remember you for asking their advice

Good luck!

Florida Hospital has it's own college-Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences-they have a great radiology program and of course placement at one of their campuses is pretty much a lock upon graduation. There web site if fhchs.org. Check it out. And the campus is right next door to their main hospital Florida Hospital Orlando

Default going back to school

The only thing bad about going back to school after years away. Whether you graduated with a degree or not, the schools make you take some pre-required coarses. This delays your actual start. Then you have to reapply all over for the actual program.

You also have to make sure that the schools are accrediited.
The USDept. of Labor has a great index for jobs, salaries, and qualifications for jobs. Great links to the agencies that accredit any job.

Buddy,
You can go the Florida hosp School route, or you can go to a community college and get an AA degree and be qualified to take your Rad Tech boards. Keiser offers a "limited" Rad license, which you really dont want. They dont make as much money, and the jobs they get (ltd license people) usually are sub-optimal. I've been in the field for 21 years, so trust me, I know what i'm talking about. Try checking out Valencia Community college, or DBCC--they both offer Rad Tech...and to be honest, unless you want to get into management in the field, the BS is not really required anywhere, including Florida hospital and ORMC (I've worked at both).
Hope this helps...any questions, email me personally.
Angiodave

There are many excellent schools/institutes that one may attend to earn certification or a degree in many disciplines. One I know is Central Florida Institute, with a campus in Orlando, and One in Palm Harbor. The courses available are Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, Cardiovascular Tech, Cath Lab Tech, Echo Tech, Surgical Tech, Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS), and Polysomnographic Tech (sleep study tech) with accreditation from ABHES and CAAHEP, depending on the program. The website is: Central Florida Institute | Quality medical and dental education and training and a toll-free number is: 888-831-8303. Best of luck in your career!
