If you're looking for a beautiful quiet beach, check out Crandon Park on Key Biscayne on a weekday while you're in Miami. It may not be the ideal place to stay with your family, I would agree that the Vero/Ft. Pierce-Juno area would be good for that. But it is certainly nice, and has very shallow calm water a long way out. It is a quiet, lovely place to visit on a random weekday, especially before all the schools let out.

Pompano Beach or Lauderdale by the Sea ( I prefer the area around Hillsboro Inlet). This time of the year the water is super clear and there's lots to see in the water (many people prefer to snorkel or scuba dive). Beach is beautiful too, not too crowded either.

Satellite Beach is on the barrier island near Melbourne. Nice Family beach town. Not crowded in the summer but not deserted either.
