People have tossed that idea around (mainly those interested in the downtown area). Its been slow going and if it ever happens, that city won't see it for decades to come. If people are familiar with Brooklyn New York (or even certain areas in Harlem) you can see what a difference that can make to a city. 20 years ago, if someone would have said that a former president of the united states would live there- they'd think you were nuts! But that's NYC.....The main ingrediant missing in this case is a strong ECONOMIC infrastructure to support the '30-something yuppies' moving in (which the treasure coast clearly doesn't have). Gentrification has worked and has been a success (depending on who's success you're looking at- the one's who are pushed out or the ones who've moved in) in other communities but I doubt it can work in this case. There's nothing to support it.

By far the largest growing sector of gang crime in the Palm Beaches are illegal Haitians. Central American MS-DOS gangs or whatever are also nasty brutes. Most members are illegal.

Well, I think it was low priority for them, because it wasn't a burglary in progress. It was in Port Saint Lucie. Port St. Lucie cops, though, have a reputation.

I do believe they recognize the growing problem, however, as I watched a news program a coupel months back detailing how PSL cops are working to nip gang problems in the bud (recent arrests sometime back of 16 gang members may attest to this). Who knows if its effective enough. Time will tell.
