This is truely sad, but these are the times we live in here in South Florida. I have said this for a year that crime is up. I don't know what it is, if its the economy that is forcing people to crime or if we are not raising our kids to respect thy neighbor. But something needs to change.
My heart goes out to this family.

I havent lived in FL for as long as some of you have I'm sure, but when you live in another place for a while, and then you come to FL, it is eye-opening.
I just want to say that my prayers go out to the family of the victims.

Thought you would shop at the Palm Beach Mall, remember that worker at Chik-Fil-A that was robbed, shot and killed in the Food Court??

Guess they want to send a message, supposedly blogging this, I haven't been able to find any details. I think it's pointless but some people want to create some heat.

You asked the question, What's the source of my data??
Simple!!!
We lived near there for nearly 2 years, and had looked at buying property there, back in spring 2005....
Before this run up in prices...you could buy one of those ticky-tacky lots for $15,000 and a house on it for less than $100K....
During the run up...lots went to $80-100k, and housing prices went up to $250-400K.....
THERE ARE SEVERAL THOUSAND EMPTY HOUSES SETTING IN PALM COAST...RIGHT NOW....
There are even more condo's......THERE IS A GLUT OF CONDO'S....
The "EXACT" same thing is happening now, as happened in the 1970's...
It happened in Palm Coast, Port St. Lucie, Fort Myers, Leigh Acres ....just to name a few...
Face it...Palm Coast is a CRAPPY little town, with no side walks, no buried cables, water in the ditches, and old roads....
Like I said 2 years ago....
Palm Coast was a place where they threw a party, and NOBODY show-up!!!!

OOHH YAH!!! I almost forgot....
>>>>>""" THE FIRE HAZARD """<<<<<<<<<<
Drive north of PC, a little bit, upto Matanzas, and see the total devastation a fire can do.....
It was back in 1998, when "Florida was on fire"....
Big chunks of that area went up in smoke.....
RIGHT NOW YOU'VE GOT ALL THOSE DRY PINE TREES IN YOUR BACK YARD...WAITING FOR SOME FOOLISH JERK TO START A FIRE, AND BURN THE TOWN DOWN....
When we lived in Plantation Bay, they made us evacuated our houses because of fires 100's of feet away....
I'T SCARRY WHEN FIRES ARE OUT OF CONTROL, IN A TINDER BOX LIKE PALM COAST!!!!

in any case, people are responsible for their own behavior. A hot climate isn't an excuse to commit crimes.

A person in extreme heat may become delirious but it would take extreme heat and a depravation of water to bring it on. Within normal parameters I would say clear thought is most common in a warm but comfortable environment, lets say mid seventies in temperature and the brain itself would be warmer then that..

Haha!! I couldn't agree more! I named a few things that I hate about PC, but like I said, I couldn't name then all or it would take all day! But you just reminded me that the no side walk thing, and the no buried cables thing, are two more things I hate about PC!

Interesting so called data. Let me tell you about my neighborhood, which is located directly across from the new town center.
Three homes within a mile of me recently sold for asking price after being listed for less than a month. Each of these homes were more than $300K.
I am getting ready to list my home, as I've outgrown it and am building something larger. I've been told by three different realtors that the values in this section of town have held up in spite of the real estate issues elsewhere. I had an appraisal 18 months ago and a market analysis done in November- the value of my home has actually increased by $14,500 and no improvements have been made.
Myrian, you've visited here. Do you see a gang problem? Do you see gang graffitti all over the place? Do you see gang bangers walking around? I've lived here for a long time and I don't now and never have. I have children in the public schools here- secondary schools. I have asked them about gang activity and they say there is none. They say there are a few foolish kids who claim to be in gangs but these kids know they are just trying to look tough.
My brother is a detective here in Flagler County. He used to live out of the county and moved here from Ormond Beach 6 months ago because he wants to raise my nephews and niece here because it's safe, it's a smaller town and it maintains the small town, neighborhood feel.
The greatest negative about Palm Coast is the few people who trash the place where they choose to live. And unfortunately these people are often vocal about hating it here yet they stay. Go figure. I'm sure they'll also hate the next place they will live too.

Is that a common plea in court. "It was hot so I robbed a 7-11? How do you make that leap? You state it as though it is a fact. Hot climates = commit crimes. Where are you actually trying to go with this theory?
I have to come back and add, from my background that consisted of dealing with what were some of the criminal element, my bar was a hang out for wise-guys and various other types, soou are somewhat correct. A lot of the not so nice people are attracted to Florida due to the weather. I knew many guys who lived as much in their cars as they did it apartments. Life down here was a lot easier for sure then in the frozen north.
I don't think it is so much the heat that makes people commit crime as it is the criminals like the nice weather. Kind of a chicken and the egg type thing. Criminals also often have vices and Florida caters to that as well. Race tracks, Jai Alai, indian casino type gambling. As well as a large turn over of people creating an opportunity to ply their various illegal trades. It is not an accident Gypsies have always wintered in Florida, it is easy pickens down here.

Okay, like I said, I agree with you 100% about how horrible PC is, and yes, there are quite a few Russians here, but what you just said (the stuff that I highlighted above) was really unnecessary, and unbelievably rude! My husband is Russian and some of the nicest people I have ever met in my life are Russian. You said that the only people that would live here are "dumb immigrants", sorry, but I'm definitely not an immigrant. I was born and raised in Florida (Jax), and yes my husband is from Russia (but he's been in the US since he was 9 years old) and lives in PC, but he's certainly not dumb, and the ONLY reason we are here is for my husband's job. And as I said before, we will be leaving PC in August and neither of us can wait. Again though, that post was really rude and uncalled for, and quite frankly, it was pretty ignorant!
