That's what happens when third world residents overwhelm an area. Makes you wonder why Lake Worth is STILL so EXPENSIVE! PSL you're next.

Actually crime grows when the people and government take their eyes off the ball, start nonsense wars, waste trillions of dollars on pet projects, and ignore the poor and inner cities. Bottom line is when the government focuses on trickle up economics, putting effort and money into the poorer areas, it raises all of society up. That was done in the 1990s, the opposite has been done since 2000.
Violent crime is up nationwide since 2000, according to FBI statistics. Cities like Philadelphia have gone from steady progress from 1980-2000 to total chaos.
It isn't illegals causing the rise in crime, it is bad policy where the top 1% get mind blowingly richer and the rest scrounge for crumbs....or go deeper into debt for the illusion that they are making it.

Wow. I always thought crime was caused by scumbags who don't follow the law. I somehow thought free will was involved.

I still doubt the ability for PSL to become the next Palm Beach. PSL is not "developed" properly to sustain gang activity. Suburban sprawl, low density single family neighborhoods lack the "incubating" factors for crime. It's why PSL is still the safest city of its size in Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Palm Beach Counties.
That and PSL cops are notoriously no-nonsense. We'll see. I still hold hope for PSL.

That's only PART of it. You have to understand the variables involved when it comes to 'high crime' vs 'low crime' areas. It's not to say that anyone here is right or wrong but it is a COMBINATION of those factors that create those conditions. I think it is true that some people are just victims of crime through circumstances beyond their control. It's not politically correct to name someone a 'victim' but I pay attention to the news, I deal with children and families in a variety of socieconomic settings and I do think its reasonable for someone to want to relocate from an area in order to lessen their chances of becoming a victim or exposing their families to that environment.
I do NOT, however, support the statement of the person that said drugs and domestic violence were just 'minor' things that her kids had been involved with (or something to that effect). Living in that environment has probably skewed her view of what is right vs what is wrong so maybe by relocating to an area of better opportunity she will eventually understand the difference between the two and can better model that for her children.

Port St. Lucie/Ft. Pierce are already infested by gangs. Port St. Lucie has plenty of crime. Go over to the courthouse any day of the week and you'll see for yourself.
When you say PSL is the safest city of it's size on the Treasure Coast, it's because it's the ONLY city of it's size on the Treasure Coast.
You aren't looking at the drug abuse and drug crime statistics.

I think that it is their view of right vs. wrong that makes the environment they live in. It doesn't matter where they go-they bring that view with them. The environment does not magically appear-it is created by the people in it.
