Default New Move

Looking for a change in scenes...I am from Mass orginially...I am looking to relocate to perhaps FL? I have heard that they are looking for teachers? What are some of the good school systems to teach in and perhaps a good somewhat affordable area for a girl to move in? Any help would be great! Thanks

Hey ktpop. My wife is a teacher in Tampa. Teachers just got a 10% raise in the county, but overall, teachers are paid worse in Florida than most states. Unless you have other sources of revenue, the teacher salary will be enough to get you by in a half-decent apt in most places, but you probably couldn't afford even the smallest condo (unless it was in a crack neighborhood). I think the starting salary for a BS in elementary ed in Tampa is now $30K.

As for the rest of the state, I can't be sure. I know Miami pays teachers fairly well, and I know in Gainesville they get paid next to nothing.

I would say Northwest Florida (Pensacola, Navarre, Fort Walton Beach, Panama City, etc). Looking for well qualified teachers, lots of opportunities and the cost is not as bad as down south.

See links to school districts:

See below for housing cost:
I found the following home for $189K in Milton Fl. A few months back this was over $200K.

1-5 years old, 1819 SQ FT.....
Beautiful four year old home, ready to move in. Split bedroom plan, fireplace, cathedral ceilings, breakfast bar, oak cabinets, pantry, range, dishwasher and built-in microwave stay. Large master bath with walk in closet, double vanity, garden tub & separate shower, large 12x19 great room, 12x20 screened sunroom, privacy fenced back yard, roof has dimensional shingles, overhang is vynal, sprinkly system with timer. This home shows well!
