Ours is wonderful!
Well as you all may know by now, I sold our home in September and we will be closing in a few weeks. My buyer asked me about our insurance company and I gladly gave her the info and the company's name.
We went up $350.00 after the hurricanes which makes our payment about $1400 a year! Can ya beat that?

Please note that not all insurance policies are created equal so a lot of the cost depends upon the deductibles, etc.
We live in Lake County, have a 1700 sq foot home with an additional building (workshop/garage) on about 1/2 acre. House was built in '91 and we bought in '92. Last year we took out the 2% hurricane deductible rather than the 5% we had during '04. Our primary deductible is $500. Our 2006-07 premium is $1,058 with State Farm - and $65 of that goes to Citizens to help insure the people on the beach with the ++million dollar homes.
From what I've read on this and other forums, guess I shouldn't complain even though our insurance has gone up in the past couple of years. I just hope it doesn't continue to climb.

$0.00 I don't believe in buying insurance. My dad and I built it in when we built the house in 1990. If it gets destroyed I just sell the lot and leave.

Is all about location, 6 to 7 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and 1/4 from East Bay River, house 1820 SF, built in 1997, no claims for hurricane damage, 1 claim from hail storm (roof replaced). The claim for hail did not cost me a penny; everything was cover by the insurance. My payments for the first 5 year were under $650 a year, therefore my $9,500.00 roof with 30 year warranty at no cost. The insurance did increased after the 2005 hurricane season just like everyone else.
House worth $250K
Insurance $1,500.00
Deductible; $2K
Hurricane Deductible 3% full replacement value.
