Default Pensacola Jobs and Living Situations

I moved to Pensacola with my wife and daughter almost three years ago. My wife had an opportunity to get a promotion if she took the job. I on the other hand gave up my tenure as a music teacher for 20 years.
We have found Pensacola to have the best beaches in the world and perhaps the fishing is terrific too.The golf courses here suck and the fees are way over the top.You have to be rich to become a member to a well groomed club but even that is very few. I was surprised to say the least. I on the other hand cannot find work over 10.00 an hour anywhere. There are cutbacks in the teaching field and can't find a music job.The economy has been aweful and needless to say for me it has been a nightmare. My wife is fortunate but she now expects me to work at a food establishment for minimum wage.
The schools are not that good unless you live in Gulf breeze or santa rosa. The "Good Ol' Boys" take care of their own here and there is very lettle opportunity for people who move here other than the military.Very political right wing area but have to say two thirds of pensacola is low income with little hope right now.
If you are in banking, healthcare, construction, this is your town. Other than that, you are in big trouble if you want to come here to find work. If you were fortunate like my wife is, you will be OK! Unfortunately, I'm not OK and wish we never left Connecticut. Kahuna Jim

I went to college at uwf, graduated in 05. Moved away after I graduated and have done some traveling since. Some good friends are down there and I know some people. I was thinking seriously of moving back down there but the only thing holding me back is the job market. It was absolutely terrible when I was there and it doesn't sound like anything has changed. I may think twice of moving back

My husband is from Pensacola, and you speak the absolute truth. I lived there for three years due to family, but he eventually insisted that we move back to my home state because he couldn't take the good ol' boy attitude and the lack of paying work. He's a computer technician and his pay in Pensacola was half the pay of what he gets now in my home state. I'm a writer and didn't find anything in my field-- i ended up doing the minimum wage thing like you.
