What communities in Florida are very walkable (for living and visiting) Florida gets a bad wrap for being automobile oriented but there are some really nice walkable districts.

You might want to look to some of the newer all inclusive communities. Celebration, FishHawk Ranch, Avalon Park (Orlando), etc. They are popping up all over the place now. Most of them are self contained to a a point in that they have their own shopping, medical facilities, etc. However, you may likely still have to travel outside the community for work. Some of the beach communities are pretty walkable as well.

Miami is ranked #5 by WalkScore of the major US cities in terms of walkability with quite a number of neighborhoods that fit the bill. Miami Beach (separate city) does well also, as does the previously mentioned Jacksonville and St Pete. I would add parts of Fort Lauderdale (east side around US1) and parts of Tallahassee (closer to downtown).

People are always asking this question here - and everyone has a different idea of what "walkable" means to them. maybe you can elaborate what you are looking for.

Thumbs up Historic FL City Downtown Areas

There are quite a few cities in Florida that were built prior to the auto (and electricity) AND prior to the city planning paradigms of Robert Moses from NYC of cars, towers, freeways, garages/lots and suburban sprawl. This was "progress" for the post WW2 generation.

Daytona Beach is an excellent walkable community in the downtown core of the city.

Here is an excellent website and app to check out walking and bike rides that is used by those who know. Check out walks mapped out for Daytona Beach. They're pretty spectacular!:

Have fun!
