I am sure not everyone wants to be a CNA... My ex was one shortly, she didn't care for changing bed pans and wiping "things" if you know what I mean. She went right to school to become an LPN. Also not everyone in Florida wants to, or is working in the healthcare field... Besides the healthcare field what is there for jobs? Retail if you want 12 hours a week...

Where were you, in Montauk or something? I thought your family was close to the city, no?

However, see statutes such as 1009.21, on establishing residency for reduced school tuitions. There was no disagreement that she didn't qualify for a particular tax exemption. There is disagreement that she's not legally considered a resident for many purposes per the Florida State Statutes, as well as disagreement over whether her idiosyncratic definition of "resident" resembles the conventional, consensus usage of that term by "everyday Joes".

I had to laugh about the one post about, "The reason ones don't like it here is because they don't have the money." Not always true. One restaurant George and the Dragon which has been in business since 1969; always had a great Halloween party. They have had this party for the past 35 years. People fly, drive from all over to see the spectacular Halloween decorations. Someone complained to the fire marshall about the decorations. Fire marshal took a little of the decoration and set a light to it. It burned and the owners were told either take down the decorations or close the place. Some people can't stand to see others succeed that really cator to their patrons. I've seen it to much in the 25 years of living here.
If you have a good income and even at that I'd rent for awhile. So you can see for yourself if you like it or not. If your going to be in business here, "Watch your back." Because you would be surprised who would stab you. Ones you would least expect.

Yes, that is Naples for you... I worked at an apartment complex there, we put a tiny little sign(12"X16") out front saying "now leasing" and the wonderful code nazi's came to the door like it was a 30 foot neon sign. And the guy had a real jerk attitude on top of it, not like a nice "please remove the sign", he threatened them with this and that. Then you go to Davis Blvd area and look at the dumpy area it is and wonder "what is the difference"...?????? Naples is not a special place, no better than ANY town in Florida.

It was about my husband. As I stated before, both an accountant and an attorney were involved. So what? Big Deal. What the hell did Florida lose by it???????
As far as me, I am a Florida resident, unfortunately. I have been since October 2007. I made up my mind before I ever came down here that I would not stay. Hell, NOBODY can change how I feel about that. I am just biding my time here until I can go, hence, my term temporary resident. I hold no allegiance to the City of Naples, Collier Country, or the State of Florida. That is just how it is. Somebody on another tread wrote about the transient population and how they don't care about things here. I suppose they were talking about tourists and snowbirds, but you could add me to that group too.
You can quote all the statutes in Florida law you want, but nothing in that can force somebody to care about the place where they are living when they don't want to be here, PERMANENT RESIDENT or not.

That makes no sense to me in the context of the comment you're quoting from me. I think maybe you're reading something into what I'm saying? I'm just talking about a couple very simple ideas, I'm really not saying anything controversial there, and I'm really not giving an opinion on anything there.

Right, and I'd be the last person to try to "force someone to care" about anything. I never said anything remotely related to that idea. I never suggested you should like Florida, that you should want to live there, etc. Again, I think maybe you're reading something into what I'm writing rather than just reading what I'm writing more or less "literally".

As far as transients goes, I have students in the south Bronx who move to and from Florida. A lot of them have family there and move there for "a new life." Anywhere is better than living in the south Bronx though. Then again, I've had students who were born in Florida (or the rest of the south) and moved to the area. So just from my students alone, that adds to the transient population.

do only bitter people post
I am getting nervous reading all of the negativity about Naples. Will my 4 kids truly have nothing to do? I find it hard to believe there are only 55+ year olds when there are over 5 highschools in Naples. If I want to spend $800k on a home, can I be on the water and in a nice neighborhood? Should I move just outside of Naples...say Bonita Springs?
Can you waterski in the inter-waterways?
