What really gets me are the people who gripe about the weather. It's hot and humid in the summer just about everywhere. I took a trip to Minneapolis, MN last summer & the temps were in the mid-upper 90's everyday I was there.

At least you Floridians can engage in outdoor activities this time of year without worrying about frostbite/hypothermia.

Our high temperature here tomorrow is supposed to be 7 (yes seven) degrees F. It's really fun stuff lemme tell you. Come up here for a while and experience winter...you'll be longing to go back home to FL after one day here.

Should I move just outside of Naples...say Bonita Springs?
Can you waterski in the inter-waterways?
Kids-I have one daughter, 23, who just moved away. She complained constantly about their being nothing to do in Naples. Naples is primarily a town for wealthy retirees and the political machine-including the school system-reflect this. They closed the roller skating rink and opened a bingo hall.

Home-800K will get you a very nice place on the water. Be careful about HOA fees and taxes/insurance.

Waterski-I suppose you could but there are a lot of turns depending on where you are.

Bonita-Bonita is a nice area. There are bad parts (just like in Naples) but not in areas with 800K homes.

Where are you moving from? Do you have/need jobs? Why Naples?

If you post more about your situation we can give you better advice.

Naples is a beautiful place to live, but you need realistic expectations.

Remember you now have 4 seasons. Winter will turn to Spring, Spring to Summer, etc. Summer is FOREVER in Florida.

The high today in Naples was 58 and CLOUDY. I even had the HEAT on last night. However, I cannot enjoy it too much. I am leaving for NY tomorrow for a long weekend. I think with the wind chill it's 5 above. That is ok. I will get to wear my Irish sweaters and nice, new LL Bean down coat. It's so nice to sleep under down. Even people at work were stopping me today saying that I must be LOVING this weather. Yep.

Looking forward to my weekend. I hope I don't come back to 80s.

If anyone is looking for a new move, I suggest Las Vegas. You can get a house for dirt cheap. On my block, we always have get togethers when we can because a lot of us work on weekends and holidays. Of course, you do get about a 6 week long stretch of heat in late July to late August but plan vacation or weekend get-a-way to San Diego where we were last summer at night it was in the 60's. No mosquitos or large bugs or gators like I have been reading about. Church is always packed so there are a lot of people that you can meet. I may have to move because the city is pretty much on a hiring freeze & I worked for a homebuilder so I was looking at Florida but I will leave here kicking & screaming.

Exactly how I felt, I could not wait to get away from there. I like Florida, but Naples is the LAST place I would live. Overrated to say the least.

Ok, so naples is out. I need to find a town to live in within 2-3 hours of Ft. Lauderdale that is not cookie cutter and has some charm and natural beauty. Ideas??
