Default Property Tax - Florida Ballot Initiative

I'm short of time this week, but I just received the following and wanted to share. They are looking for signatures on two petitions: 1) abolish all property taxes, and 2) no new taxes without voter approval. The video is worth watching, too, e.g., the government is spending more than we make...

Though it would be nice to replace 1) with an increase in consumption (sales) taxes, it is probably a pipe dream.

Number 2) is a crucial issue and people should be sharply focused on it, like white on rice, rather than wasting their brain power on television and such.

Let's hope it attracts some interest.

Good luck!

It would help if ypu knew a lobbyisst in Tallahassee. Otherwise, you are not in the pipeline. The only time I saw action at a corrupt medical facility run by the state was when a lobbyist took interest, and brought the resident to his own facility via private jet.

Default Speaker Rubio

I just got off a conference call with 400+ Realtors (of the 150,000 members) around the state of Florida, our lobbyist in Tallahassee, and House Speaker Marc Rubio.

All acknowledge the current property tax system is broken. The bottom line here is if we don't vote YES on Amendment 1 in January 08, there will be NO RELIEF until another amendment can be put on the ballot in November 2008.

The Florida Ballot Initiative above is only one of several "in the works," but none will make any difference before 2009.

Unfortunately even if we vote "yes" there will be no relief for me anyway. We really need to do better. Hopefully the Realtors realize that the tax situation hurts them too. IF people really work together on tax relief, we can make it happen.
