New Drug Discount Plan: just say no
1) More creeping socialism from Crist. We need to dump him.
2) Do we really need a new budget item when spending needs to be contained?
3) What happened to Wal-Mart and Target's $4 prescription drugs? I guess helping people doesn't count unless government does it.

1. What is the permanent fix?
2. IS this just Florida or a national concern?

what is your definition of socialism, exactly? And from your screen name--are you a disciple of the late Ayn Rand?

drug discount cards
The Florida Discount Drug Card is now available to individuals and families under the age of 60 whose annual income is less than 300 percent of the federal poverty level. Qualifying incomes for individuals are up to $30,636, for two-person families the income cutoff is $41,076 and for a family of four, $61,956.
All individuals over the age of 60, regardless of income, qualify for the card if they do not have prescription drug coverage or if they are in the Medicare Prescripton Drug Coverage gap.

I can answer #3.
WM and Target offer many (not all) generic prescription drugs for $4 for a 30 day supply. It is an excellent program. The WM website lists which ones they cover.

You need insurance to be part of the Lee County program
Which can save you up to 18 percent.
http://dhs.lee-county.com/AP_Family_T4_R160.html
The National Association of Counties (NACo) has contracted with Caremark to provide a prescription discount card for its member counties to offer to their uninsured and underinsured residents. These cards may provide an average savings of 20% on prescription medications and there are no enrollment fees, age requirements, or income verification.
