I want to move to Florida.
I like the warm weather all year long, I like a place away form the metro areas with a natural landscape. Away from bad areas know for drugs and crime. In essence, I want to live as cheaply as possible in a warm and pristine Florida area. As much as reality allows. (keeping in mind income possibilities). Are there regions of Florida that meet this criteria? opportunities. Thanks for your thoughts. ![]() Last edited by prestonMI; 12-24-2007 at 12:33 AM. |

As for my situation I'm close to a natural resources degree from MSU. I'm 26. I'm visiting Florida in a few weeks. I would like to check on a few areas. Thanks. |

I'm gonna assume you don't yet have a job in Florida. It would be a HUGE mistake to move here without a job or a huge wad of cash. I have no idea what the job market would be with someone with your degree, but your income will have a large impact on where you can afford to live. The economies vary in different parts of Florida. |

My line of work will more or less put me in the hands of the government, working in wildlife management or conservation. What are the market trends and demand for such work, more importantly, what parts of Florida will demand this line of work most? I've done some research but your knowledge, as a resident, is just as valuable. Thanks. |

Hernando County is in the Nature Coast. We have 1000's of acres of preserves here both coastal and interior.
You say warm and pristine, it is warm here most of the time but we do get our cold snaps with a few nights in a row below freezing, it almost never stays below freezing during the day. Drugs and crime you will find anywhere but the level of drugs and crime here is low compared to most areas. I live here with my children and I could live anywhere I want, I wouldn't live in a area bad for drugs and crime. There are many Wildlife Management (Weeki Wachee Preserve, Homosassa Springs, Withlacochee, Green Swamp, etc.) areas around here so you would probably have no problem finding work. The cost of living is not bad. Of course there are areas where it will be lower but many areas where it will be higher. If you have any more questions just let me know. |

My parents lived in Hernando County for 18 years so I know a little about the area. They lived in Spring Hill which is a suburban area. Just a few miles north and east it becomes very rural. The further south or towards the coast you get the more population and congestion you will find. Plus it is generally more expensive in south Florida. It sounds like you will be working for a government agency in enviornmental services or in one of the parks. There are state parks all over Florida, plus there are some federal parks. You might want to consider a city or county job in enviornmental services, pollution control etc. This is the link for the state Division of Forestry: http://www.doacs.state.fl.us/index.html I have no idea what the job market is like for this type of work. |
