Default Young couple moving to Florida

My boyfriend and I are planning to move to Florida after we graduate in two months. With hopes to move by the end of next year, we are trying to find the right location in Florida to move which is affordable. We are an interracial couple, both of whom are going to be college graduates, looking for a diverse area to live in. We are looking into areas within Palm Beach County, and were wondering which specific areas we could have a good start in. Also, we were hoping to look into renting a one or two bedrooms apartment in the $1000-1100/mth range in rent. Please advise because we want to move to an area where we will fit in.

Palm Beach is a beautiful area, and south florida is so culturally diverse that everyone fits in. I do not know too much about the rent in Palm Beach, but that area is traditionally the most expensive, unless you head to Palm Beach Gardens. It isn't nearly as nice, but is affordable. It does have some slums, so do your shopping. In Miami, for example, in the East Kendall area ( a nice place to be) that average 2 bedroom rent is approx 1200. Homeownership is out of reach unless you are willing to spend $400-$450K for a 3 br/2ba on a zero lot, which in my opinion is ridiculous! Escpecially since last year that same house would have been $100-$150K less! Lets put it this way, I could not afford to move into my own neighborhood if I didn't already live here...and I should say that I'm trying to leave out of S.Fla. Mostly because of the no property/privacy and hurricanes-Ughh! What I love is that you have the opportunity to learn alot from other cultures (when they let you, many newly relocated hispanics are opposed to outsiders). The hispanices I grew up with are a different type-very friendly, warm, and americanized as we like to say, but the ones who have come here in the past 5-10 years are simply trying to make it just like the place they left! And if it was so great there...why did they leave? If you do not speak spanish...learn, because they will not learn english for you. That is if you expect to get a job here. (Another reason I'm leaving) It's sad, really, I grew up here, & love the culture, city life, fashion, restaurants, etc but all of that is lost when you cannot even communicate in english with your neighbor to tell them to please turn down their loud reggaeton or bass music. I will miss the Palm Trees, Hurricane Football, and year round sunshine, but it gets too hot most of the time anyways! And want my children to live in a more family friendly environment with better schools (our elementary schools are fine, but the rest? lets just say look into private for 6-12 grades!) Hope some of it was helpful. It really is an ok place if you are up for all of the reasons I dont like it. Its just that I've been here all my live & liked the Miami I grew up in, and sadly that is long gone. It's more like North Cuba or central america now & rather than fight for my dear cherished Miami memories to be kept I'm going to let them have it & take my memories & family out of here. It's a shame really, no where else in the world can a group of people move in & take over without the natives being able to stop them except Miami...were outnumbered.

I can't imagine moving to any place in fla right out of college and trying to buy a house...sure you could rent a place, but why? try renting someplace in st pete. you could have the beach and diversity and then get tired of being so crowded and then move!

Thank you for your help. We have actually posted the same message on other message boards, and it has been brought to our attention that Orlando was a beautiful, reasonably priced area to live in? Can anyone out there advise on this? We are relocating from Philadelphia and the prices up here are outrageous. We want to move to a nice warm place and get a reasonable start out there. Also, how are the jobs down there? We are both Business Administration majors who will soon be earning our bachelor's degrees. Your advise would be greatly appreciated.
