There really is no acceptable excuse for this happening:

True. But if the lots are the same size, and adjacen so there's no difference in view or other factors, seems pretty simple to fix. It will make all the lawyers a little richer to get it done, but unless the real owners of the land are jerks this seems like an easy fix. I'd have lots of questions for all the county inspectors, for sure!!

From the article posted <quote>
Documents show the couple paid $160,000 for the lot their dream home was supposed to be built on. The lot the home was actually built on is now valued at $355,000 for the land only.>>>>

Not a simple problem.

Just watched news and the owner of the lot the house was built on will be the one who is taxed for his lot..... and the$600,000+ house on it now, so they have to get it figured out before taxes are due. So the solution? Going to cost them both?

ok I can exclusively reveal what happened.

the home owners used CD Sarasota forum for help.
the cabal said 'build here', but they heard 'build there'
Realtors queued up to help but builders cut them out to save the 6% but never told them
the cabal met and said 'oh dear'
new posters said 'the multi national builders would never have done this
some people said 'move it to LWR' some 'move it to Palmer Ranch'
one -nameless realtor- said 'I will stand alone in the face of the majority'...and lost his commission
the cabal met and said 'blow it lets go for a drink'
one poster said 'this all happened at the weekend'
another said 'you cut and pasted that'
the cabal disbanded

the above never happened , it is fantasy fueled by a nice red wine

all the characters do not exist in real life.................or do they !!

I haven't read more about this myself, but my neighbor said the new house is actually built spanning two lots. What a mess!!

From the picture, it also looks like driveways were built from the garages, but they don't reach the street.

This is why you really need to be involved IN PERSON in every step of buying and/or building a home. You need to see in person what lot you want, then you need to go back in person to oversee construction - not hard to figure out it's on the wrong lot if the buyer had been there to check up on their own investment. Never trust people to do a job you can do better yourself, when it really counts.
