Wow thats a big insurance increase! If you can go uninsured, that may be an option. Alot of us are cancelling insurance because we refuse to make those insurance companies rich. We do take a small calculated risk of a hurricane. Others are selling their houses and moving out of Florida.

Isn't Pasco where there's sink holes???

I think if someone wants to move to Florida and does their homework they can get a decent insurance policy. As I posted on other threads, I live 15 minutes from the ocean, I have a $500,000 home that meets all hurricane codes, I have an alarm system, and I've never submitted a claim. My policy has been $1300/yr for the last two years.

nobody will write in pasco, and people who have insurance now are getting a non renew letter. I came here 8 years ago, and bought new, however, now this home is almost 8 years old. i also had my policy paying 1200 each year.
this house is only worth 200,000 i also never did any claims

Selling and moving out is an option but how long is it taking to sell now? So, if you still have a mortgage and your house isn't selling, how do you manage. I'm in Miami and my premium just went up from $3800 to $6482!

How much are you willing to sell it for? How low will you go? Are you willing to auction it off even if just to get back what you paid for this house and take the money and move on? The market is very slow and the high insurance doesnt help

Nope. Not willing to give it away. I bought it 4 years ago and have put in about 80K in remodeling. I want ALL my money back and then some so I buy cheap someplace else and be mortgage free. I'm not one of those greedy people either but I do have to look after myself and the social security check that won't be there when it's my turn.

Funny I have lived in Pasco all my life along with my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents and in all those years I have yet to see a house in Pasco gobbled up by a sinkhole. What I have seen is an increase in the number of Sinkhole Attorneys who know there are loopholes in the sinkhole laws that you don't have to "prove" there is a sinkhole to file a claim but a "possibility" of a sinkhole and with the attorneys help and for a hefty profit they will guarantee to get your claim paid! So to answer you, there are very rare instances of "actual" sinkholes in Pasco.

I have done my homework when it comes to insurance rates and there are "descent" policies available in my county only Citizens and Lloyds of London for the expensive homes. I have even had the opportunity to hear Sam Miller who represents 138 insurance companies in Florida say that "Everyone" is paying much too little for homeowners insurance and there will be significant increases comming. He said that on live TV a few weeks ago at a Town Hall Meeting that was on Bay News 9. Enjoy your $1300 while you can. My insurance is outrageous and my brother's is worse. He lives in a small Florida bungalow style house that is 900 sq feet (NOT on the water) and is paying $5300 a year for insurance and has never had any claim.

MY god! Can he cancel insurance? For $5300 a year, ill take my chances than pay! Another option is just to sell the house and move on.

That choice is yours. You will have to do the math if you are better off putting up with those insurance increases or selling the house for what its worth and moving on and saving all that $ on insurance which may make the bigger difference.

No he can't cancell his insurance because he has a mortgage. The kicker to this is that according to what he has been told by his insurance company next year it may be almost DOUBLE what this years premiums are. He can't even sell the house because no one else can afford to insure it!
