I wouldnt buy here- this place has nothing to offer. Growth? In what way, more retail establishments for those who barely make enough to shop there. Spend time searching through the posts on Port St. Lucie and see for yourself what residents have to say about it.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/real-...te-horror.html
Summary:
Location - Cooper City, Fl
Appraised - $370K
Listed - $339K
Offer 1 - $310K, 325K counter, buyer didn't budge.
-Time passes- The seller states he gets lots of lookers but no offers. This implies that the price is low compared to ones selling in the neighborhood, but not low enough to offer without lowballing.
Finally, Offer 2 - $285K. Looks like the buyer wants it for 2004/2005 price. Realtor says take it before it falls to 225K.
House is on realtor: Real Estate Listings and Homes for Sale - Realtor.com
It's like a game of musical chairs...

Wow, it is amazing how fast things are falling. I would agree with that realtor, take that $285k and hope the deal goes through.

Yes Ralph, look at the posts about PSL and you'll find good and bad ones. Not everyone has the same negative feelings that were posted, some of us actually love the area. You may come here and not love it, but we hope you'll like our City and see it for yourself, with an open mind. If you listen to some of the comments you'll never come and see for yourself. By the way I actually shop here too.

I understand what you're saying. I live here, its great-- our crime index is pretty low when compared to other cities of similar population, people here still have that 'friendly' quality that you can't find in some of the other areas in Florida BUT I think its only fair to be realistic about what we have to offer (as a town).
I've lived here since the 90's, my dad sold real estate here in the 80's through the early part of '00. Both my parents and sibs, and inlaws, etc still live here. Sure they like it but I think its a different story for those who have lived here for years compared to those who are investing in this place today.
We still get questions from friends in other states asking about the 'cheap land' in PSL. They're asking based on old information. I wouldnt discourage anyone for checking it out for themselves but as long as they're not misinformed, then I'd feel better about it.

Your point is well taken. It is a different story buying now then in the 80's or 90's. But, we can't live in the past and have to deal with what is happening now. I just put a 1/4 acre lot deal together for $22,500 Good Price! So there are things to offer and there are deals out there. PSL might not be for you but lots of people love it here!!!

We moved to PSL due to our jobs. We were recruited here. We were required to live within 25 miles of Ft. Pierce. Our jobs are not retail related. There are jobs here. Torrey Pine Molecular Biology, Oregon Health Science and another biotech firm moved or will move here so they will hire. If you have visited San Diego, you know what a biotech valley can do. If you have visited Thousand Oaks, you know what one successful biotech firm(Amgen) can do. I think there will be growth.

I agree with LingLing (habit forming?). I'm 24, moved here from Broward and I enjoy the area I live in, Tradition. I see plenty of growth coming, just depends on the field. Living here is great too but again it just depends on your lifestyle. Besides work, I'm a mellow guy...but I find things to do.
It's a case by case scenario...like all cities. New York, Oklahoma, Seattle, Port Saint Lucie...no city is for everyone...just come and see for yourself.

I want to add one point. The problem of PSL is growing too fast during the past several years. The infrastructure doesn’t follow up (schools, trauma centers..). The collapse of the housing market would continue to attract more people to move here (low price and low rent). And, the collapse of the market will slow down the growth. I think it is good for PSL. I think this will give PSL some room to breath and allow the city to plan a better PSL. Hopefully, stop some development and add more parks w/lakes for human and dogs!!!

You bring up a good point! Things had to slow down, the market got totally out of hand. We will get back to a normal real estate market sooner or later. People are starting to look again. They are even coming by the bus load (forclosure tours) OMG!!!
