I actually think it's getting better. People are less rude, there are less people on the roads, less road rage etc. I'm enjoying the bust so far..

If it's going to be bad everywhere, I might as well wake up and see sunshine & palm trees.....having not lived outside of FL since 1991...I have no idea what's really going on except for when I speak to friends back in Detroit and other areas of the north east & midwest...they all are sick & tired of the economy there and feel they would rather deal with it down here in south...

Default How Bad will it get?

It will get worse before it gets better. (But not only in FL.)More and more people are losing there homes, jobs etc. Every day life is becoming more and more of a struggle. The life that a lot of people were used to has been taken away and we are all left with a lot of sad, angry, desperate, depressed, scared people. Those that have never had it hard are really feeling this and those of us that have had it hard are like (oh no not again Plan "B") Watch your back, keep your road rage to yourselves, try and smile and do a lot a praying. This is going to be a long bumpy road. Make the best of what you have and write down goals. I went to the local mall this weekend just to walk around and get out of the house. I sat on a bench and watched the people walk by. Not very many smiling faces. No one looks you in the eyes. Lots were busy talking on cell phones. It's a real reality check...

The taxes used this year are from 2007, the amendment has had no effect yet. The "services" we have are mostly unnecessary and support a bloated management and graft structure. If they go they will not be missed. Less "services" mean less hassle and a better economy.

I have to argue that not only Florida is going downhill... What is the threat of a recession only here in Florida? I don't think so.
I have had my property for sale for one year up here in Rhode Island. The state is in real bad shape, governor is not attracting any businesses but cutting social service programs. People are moving out of this state in the droves. All heading south especially the Carolina's looking for more affordable housing, tax relief and opportunity. I agree it is not the worst we are going to see it wait a few months. We are in a recession even though nobody is saying it. At least you have nice roads in Florida and nice weather. That should count for something.

This is the thing that puzzles me. It seems the whole country is living in denial. No one wants to come out and say it. The housing market is a bust, the stock market is slowly crashing; more like a mudslide than an avalanche but the end is the same. Prices for everything are skyrocketing. Jobs are disappearing. What jobs are left don't pay crap. If this isn't a recession I'm not sure what is. Not calling this a recession is about the same as calling global thermonuclear war a border skirmish.

I'm planning to move to FL in the summer. I figure if crime and massive unemployment are going to run rampant everywhere I might as well suffer in a nice climate. Since no one will be able to afford gas in a couple years and we'll all be riding bicycles, I'd rather be pedaling in flat old Florida than muscling my way up these hills. Heck, I could use the exercise.

I agree with you, we're in a recession and denying it or pretending it isn't what it is won't make it go away. I plan to get to Florida as soon as I'm able and ride it out there.

Yeah but in FL along with all the other problems in other states, we have a massive home insurance and home tax situation to add on top of it so be sure all of you moving to FL have a good job and know what you'll be paying for home owners and home taxes before you buy a home or else you'll be in an even worse situation. Just because we have palm trees, beaches and nice weather doesn't compensation for you having a place to live and being able to afford it.

So, then the answer would be renting, eh?....pack light, keep less, and no home owners taxes or insurance...
