I don't think Florida is the best state in America. Compared to California, Florida is a real let-down of a state. I mean, it's south, so you have those muggy southern summers. Since you're down there, you have those giant helicopter-sized mosquitoes that fly around you. The everglades look like puke in a handbag, and the everglade mountains look like West Virginia, and gross/not tropical. Southern California has beautiful icy mountains, and desert mountains. Oh yeah, California has a desert, so it has dry heat, not the nasty Florida heat. Plus, California has better waves and such. The only thing Florida has against California is affordability in terms of living. People just go to Florida because 50% of the population lives on the very eastern side of the U.S., and it's just more affordable to travel to Florida. plus florida is too conservative. California is always going to be more expensive, and that's why people don't go, although they know they would like to.

Everglade mountains? This poster must be reading an online article about the very small changes in elevation that create Florida wetlands (about 5 feet) that are sometimes referred to as mountains and valleys. Nobody who actually lives here would ever talk about mountains in South Florida or compare FL to WV, not unless he's on hallucinogens. lol

Although we've really been screwing up our environment for decades, one of the most diverse places in the country to see wildlife, especially species of birds, is in the Florida National Parks. California has several beautiful parks too. I do agree that more people retire here because of cost, but also they want to be closer to family members.

Regarding politics, Florida is definitely conservative, but didn't California elect as Governor many Republicans such as Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, George Deukmejiam, Pete Wilson ...... those are only a few names I can think of, but California is a very large, diverse state. It has twice the population and 2-1/2 times the size of Florida.

That in no way proves that Florida is any better than California. My point still stands.

Miami isn't really that great of a place to live unless you can put a lot of money into a home. It's just a cheap place to vacation.

I'd disagree. I put Miami in the top 20 cities in the world to live. But I'm a single guy with some money who loves the water. For a family I have no idea.

But that quote made me laugh pretty hard.

No, that would be stupid for a family. I was talking about an actual home in a good school system, etc. That quote made me laugh.

Having lived most of my life in CA and now owning property in FL, I can say they are simply different. CA is not better or worse. As to humidity, I had peeling lips and a sore throat most of my life due to the dry air and I lived in OC near the beach. Now with humidity that is virtually gone execpt a little in the Winter.Plus when doing hard work, I do sweat for sure BUT my muscles like it far more.

CA is a beautiful State and so is FL. Both have good points and bad.
