Cool article and a lot people take this state for granted and don't fully experience all the exciting activities it has to offer. Some people say its all flat but there are actually rolling hills all throughout central Florida an if you didn't live there you probably would not know. The Miami foodie scene is underrated in my opinion an has some of the best restaurants in the country.

Best state in America? Hardly.

I can think of many other states where I'd prefer to live. It is a good place to take a vacation every now and then.

Some of those items are purely ludicrous.

Everyone's jealous of Florida's weather? Maybe in the winter. #7 isn't even relevant anymore. #s 9 and 17.... I will totally agree with, however.

Stupid list that will just bring out the anti-FL trolls in droves.

Some of these reasons are utterly asinine.
The Cuban Sandwich? Really....
Key Lime pie? mehh... That doesn't define why a state is great.
Everyone jealous of our weather? Yeah, maybe in the Winter time, but otherwise no. California wins that one, Florida.

Why there are plenty worse states to live in....Florida ain't so bad. It's got beautiful beaches, nice hot weather if u like that... Great restaurants and shopping (at least in south FL)....

otherwise? idk.... swamps.

From the South Florida perspective, it's the best place to live on the East Coast in the Winter, I'll give it that...aside from that the job market for most is hit or miss, even for those who are highly educated and experienced, in some professions Florida in general, is a state with no light at the end of the tunnel for many...

I think it is worth noting that Florida did not begin its history some four hundred years ago (a few Spanish military posts notwithstanding) or in the flurry of a gold rush, but with some 45 years of war and decades of tortuous water/land management development. It slowly entered into the modern world starting around the 1890s and not fully until the 1950s.

So in some 65 years it has become the third most populous state in the Union and, believe it or not, it does provide headquarters to some corporations of nation-wide importance, a few well-known, many lesser known in niche areas, and, vice versa, many corporations of nation-wide importance, and a few international, invest directly in Florida. And I'm not talking about tourism and entertainment.

Now, I can understand the frustration of those who expect amenities of some kind or another typical of the northeast or California or other places with more natural and human wealth and more history, but Florida's best days may well lie ahead, not only for those who have accumulated wealth in the past and are waiting to die in warmth and water, but also for those with the patience and the determination to play a role in shaping its future in a special environment on US soil and niche position in the global trade circuit. Personally I have a foot in both directions on the timeline.

So Florida still actually represents a very special opportunity for those with vision - past, present and future -, talent and resources.

Good Luck!
