We all know South Florida is culturally and politically different than the rest of Florida. An attempt was made in 2008 to split Florida into North Florida and South Florida, but the proposal failed. However, as recently as 2011 proposals were still being made to split Florida in half, as in this quote from South Floridians:

Many states are very different from one region to another. Because it is different doesn't mean it should split.
Washington State - Eastern and Western
Texas - Central, East and North
California - South and North
New York - Upstate and Central
Alaska - South Central, Interior, Arctic Slope, South East, Southwestern
