My friend from Alabama came here and went back to AL within 3 years.

A friend from GA left and went to San Diego. Another from NC left and went to Denver.

Another came here from TN and stayed.

Quite a bit of inland FL isn't all that scenic either. Lots of flat sandy scrub, saw palmettos and loblolly pines. Which part of FL are you considering? Winters in the Panhandle are similar to late fall/early winter here, a mix of fairly decent days mixed with cold, wet days, the higher humidity makes it pretty bone chilling at times.

Nope, not everyone. That's part of the problem. Living in such a rapidly filling state isn't appealing to everyone. And some people don't care for the weather up there.

Exactly... MOST of inland FL is pretty boring in terms of scenery.

I lived in Florida for awhile.. it does NOT feel Southern like TN does. It feels more midlandish (ironically) and most people in Florida don't speak with accents like in TN. Wait until you get there... it's hot, humid and the people are just bleh. Nothing special. I wouldn't go back.

NC is a possibility as I could probably find related work in Charlotte. Raleigh is also a possibility, but is more expensive. Still, NC has an income tax which I am looking to avoid.

When departing FL for other states, I've noticed that most Northeastern "halfbacks" move to NC, Midwestern "halfbacks" move to TN, and native Floridians move to CA.

..and Califronians move to WA (en masse). People go around in circles. Btw, 'halfback(s)' sounds like half rack(of ribs).
