I would agree with tkramer, Mote Marie is one of the best marine science labs in the world. They have on site apprentice programs that I have looked into in the past. Here's the info on Mote

Has anyone heard anything about Vero Beach? I've read a few things on it and it looks pretty nice and somewhat similar to the type of place we live now, but without snow .
Also I've looked into the University of Miami for a school that we can both go to. Is it a good school? It seems to me like a decent place to go. Thanks everyone for your help so far!!!! It helps a great deal when I live so far away to make a judgement. Thanks again!!

Default Florida

I lived in Cape Coral for 3 years and I did not like it at all. Hmmmm....stay there for a few days and you will know what I mean. Sorry to say, but very back woods - red neck.
If you speak Spanish, then ok Miami.
Orlando is hot and I mean hot. It is in the center of the state and gets NO breeze from the coastline.
Sarasota is great...it has culture and the arts, which attracts different types of people.
I don't care for the panhandle area.
I think that FSU and University of Florida and Miami University are all great colleges.
Everyone is going to have their own ideas, and these are just mine.

UM is a great (and difficult to be accepted to) school for law or business, Coral Gables is a cool place to live (and you don't need to speak Spanish), but Miami is a very chaotic and hectic place. Very "love it or hate it".

Has anyone mentioned New College of Florida yet in Sarasota? Awesome small liberal arts school.

Have you looked into USF in Tampa? I've heard their marine bio program is pretty good--I can't remember the details, but a friend of mine does coastal biology stuff for the govt. and was telling me about some lab/program USF has in Tampa Bay.

I think the actual college of Marine Science is in St. Pete, too. USF has an actual Pre-Marine Biology major, which is handy.

USF is also a much better school than FGCU.

When is the last time you have been to Cape Coral? ha ha Red neck...are you kidding me?

I will give you this....it did used to be that way. Funny thing is we moved here in 2001 and my wife said there was nothing here. Back in 2000 they even tried a pick-up ban. Pick-ups had to be in the garage. We have guys coming around every week to make sure you cut your grass and do not have any boats in the front yard. They are pretty strict but it keeps the community clean.
Then boom.....the population has almost doubled.
With over 400 miles of salt water canals with ocean access it has become a boaters paradise. Community centers are great and The Cape is rated the 4th safest city in Florida. Restaurants are opening up next to the water so you can drive your boat to dinner with a couple of friends. I can say The Cape is a great place to be. The Charter schools have also helped tremendously and if you get homesteaded the taxes are great.
It is hard for us to go anywhere on vacation now....we got it all right here.
