I grew up in the treasure coast area.. Good schools. I loved that I was minutes from the beach. Calif is too pricey for my blood. Depends on what you want to spend. Im sure its nice there just too much $$$.

We would be looking for the following criteria in a city.

* Close to the Ocean
* Family Friendly,
* Good Schools

We will be flying to either or both of the following states in the next few months to see for ourselves but any helpful hints from residents would be very helpful.

Thanks!

I've read the whole thread thus far but what is your approximate budget for housing (for rent or purchase)? That will help you to narrow your focus.....and help posters on C-D give you for specific input on places that might work for you.

Especially at the rental places, there's tons of them. I think Califronians are moving away in droves. Stop misinforming people on CD.

In addition, locals here dislike people from CA, they think they are taking over and in turn ruining the state(in a way they are).

FL is better.. I think it's not even much of a contest to arrive to the conclusion that FL has left a huge stigma on you. Move on..
I guess you don't realize or don't know that people from CA drive to OR and WA states for vacations. It is a beautiful drive.

Just like you see NC plates in FL.

I make over 100k a year and would like to spend no more than 350k on a new home. We need 3 beds and 2 baths. Ocean views are not necessary but close would be ideal. Thanks everyone for your help.

That's very doable in many parts of FL. Areas near the ocean with good schools include sarasota, Brevard and st johns county. South FL will be the most expensive in area in general

Your wife should look into the story of 'Jennifer Esposito' I saw her on the Meredith Viera show and it's amazing what she's done in regards to diet for people with Celiac Disease. This is the link:

You will have to more than DOUBLE your budget to get anything close to what you are looking for in coastal California. And forget about a new home, that will cost even more.

We moved from WNY to Central Coast California, prepare for sticker shock as far as housing goes if you were to relocate. I know many migraine sufferers and would say that even though a very stable and low Barometric pressure is present here in San Luis Obispo, migraines are here too. This is a perfect climate 98% of the time....every day sunny and evenings cool. Paradise for sure. You will just have to visit and see. There are many Naturopathic physicians here that might approach treatment a little differently.

Default No Contest

I have lived in Fl 4 years and that has been more than long enough. My husband, mother and I are moving to San Luis Obispo. CA next month. Everything the previous poster said about the 2 states is absolutely true. The beaches and sunshine are beautiful but FL is full of criminals, crazy people, SEVERE alcoholics (they drink for sport here-quite literally-recently overheard my Mom's neighbor and "friends" arguing about who could drink 20 beers in the least amount of time), addicts of all types and sorts, rude tourists that will run you right over and plenty of uneducated bigots who think nothing of using the "N" word.

Read the police report in any FL paper-you will see FL is not a place you want to raise your children. The schools are horrible with low test scores and very few students going on to college. They go straight from high school to their jobs in restaurants or Walmart.

California. Hands down. Try San Louis Obispo, Oceanside (outside San Diego), Castro Valley (Bay area)
or-if money is not much of an object-Berkeley or even Monterey. Good schools, low crime, near the ocean, many family activities, great colleges, wonderful climate, progressive atmosphere, friendly people who love where they live. Need I say more?
