We are considering a home in Lake Wales and looking for some opinions on the area in regards to crime, utility costs, homeowners and auto insurance rates. Is there more than one utility provider if so who do you consider the best? Any opinions on this and other observations would be grealy appreciated. Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!

Yes we have looked at the house and driven the area a few times this week as well as a few other areas.

If you like the more "country" feel to the area it's perfect. I lived there in 2006 and it wasn't bad, but there isn't a lot out there. I remembered my auto insurance dropped when I moved out there. My utilities were average with everywhere in FL I lived. I lived in a nice area and we never had crime issues.

If you don't mind living in a smaller town, it is really a charming and beautiful area. We used to live in Lakeland and visited Lake Wales many times. I love it. And of course, the fabulous Bok Tower Gardens and Sanctuary is there.

We went to Bok Towers and loved it. We like the samll town feel but big city shopping and conveniences are a short drive.

The great thing about Lake Wales is that it's *slightly* closer to civilization (aka closer to I-4) than Avon Park or Sebring. Plus you have proximity to LegoLand if that's your thing.

Hop, skip, and a jump to Orlando too. I liked that about LW.

Avon Park and Sebring were too far down although we did like some homes there. We looked at Barlow and Lakeland also but just didn't get the same vibe. The grandkids will love Legoland and might be a good place to work part time.
