If you choose Bradenton, I would look near downtown/the riverside area or Ware's Creek, or else heading west toward the beaches. Unless you like planned communities, then head east. Stay away from areas too close to US 41 once you are south of the river it gets ghetto real fast. Factoid: Moody Blues drummer Graeme Edge lives on the river near downtown Bradenton. Sean Connery also has a house somewhere in Bradenton. Quite a few celebrities live in the Bradenton/Sarasota area, in fact. That tells you something about the area.
John Travolta lives in Ocala... I hate everything about Ocala. LOL

But then again, I dislike most of his work (Battlefield Earth, I'm LOOKING at you!!!)

I think you would be wise to heed the warning about making that commute every day, especially considering the fact that you'd have to roll the dice and hope the Skyway is free and clear of accidents twice a day. Sarasota is a beautiful town. More old folks, but beautiful. If it were me, I'd probably rent a place near work to start until I had a lay of the land and a decent feel for traffic flows, then branch out if desired. You can always drive up to St. Pete on the weekends if you're looking for some fun.
