I live in SE Florida, but have visited The Villages & Lady Lake for business. The area I was in seemed quite nice and people were friendly. In The Villages, there's a town square that looks like an old time village, it was kind of freaky at first, seeing a whole bunch of senior citizens doing line dancing to the live band they have every week and it seems everyone, everywhere drives around in a golf cart...and those who don't do well driving cars, truly don't do any better in their golf carts either. The reason it seemed freaky to me at first is because the whole scenario just reminded me of the movie "Pleasantville."

However....it also gave the impression of a community that was close-knit, there were families there with younger children. The area itself is beautiful.

To me, Lady Lakes and The Villages were one-in-the-same, but they do incorporate a rather large area. If I recall, The Villages is actually in 3 different counties, it's that huge.

Good luck!!

I live fairly close to The Villages and Lady Lake, and the area is quiet and very peaceful. I don't hear of much crime in the area, and the "downtown" area is quite upscale and has just about every necessity covered. There are several newer schools in The Villages including a charter school, and I've only heard positive things about them.

Of course i am sure i checked with the Police Dept. He said if he was going to live here in Broward, he was from Dade Cty, he would live right where i was. I have been here 4 yrs, my husband and i have walked our Neighborhood at 10 pm, 11 pm and we have never had any problems. We never hear Police Sirens unless on a run to Memorial Regional Hospital. The Police Dept is on Hollywood Blvd, about a mile or two the most from our House. I have never seen any robberies or anything.

Now if you go to Downtown Hollywood, they have problems, you have alot of transients there plus old inexpensive Motels, etc. Different people there than here. We are almost in Ft. Lauderdale, one major block, intersection to the north is Ft. Lauderdale, it is a very nice quiet area. No problems whatsoever and none of our Neighbors have either. My Girlfriend has lived here most of her life and no one in her family has had any problems. I have another Friend who lives in Emerald Hills and has been there since 1992 and never any problems.

Emerald Hills and Hollywood Hills have very nice Homes, Emerald Lakes go up to 2 Million, the other two from 450K to 1 Million. They have their own Security that rides around and patrols.

I have been to Hard Rock which is in a bad area on 441 and left at all hours of the night and never had any problems.

Not sure where some of you are getting your infor. I saw on the news one time that there was something that happened, not sure if Home invasion or what it was? In Emerald Hills. Once in 4 yrs. I do not know who was involved, what activities the Resident was in or who his friends were. That can happen anywhere. Once does not make a bad neighborhood. I can tell you we are not afraid and haven't had any problems. I have had my windows open all night.

And i hate to break it to the one from Orlando but there was a couple kidnapped from the Shopping Village, Buena Vista, there has been lots of Crime, it was on TV News, it was so bad they had to call in the FBI, so don't tell me Orlando is not bad. They even had them mugging Tourists in the Motel Parking lots. I am sure there are bad areas and pockets of crime everywhere and i am also sure you can find trouble if you are looking for it or are doing something stupid to bring trouble your way, like flashing around lots of money, being in the wrong areas of town, which is everywhere. Common sense.

I think you were talking to me, so I'm just going to say that not every crime that happens you hear about. No, Hollywood is not a warzone and I'm actually an advocate for Hollywood and South FL in general but Emerald Hills has ALWAYS had a history of home invasions and frequent burglaries, especially near the major streets. No, not an area I feel unsafe walking around, but both in the past and present a lot of crooks drove in from Miami and liked to rob people in Emerald Hills and Hollywood Hills, and they still do. Very pretty area and most people don't have incidents, but it's definitely not as safe as west Broward. And as far as downtown crime, no, that's not IN Downtown, with all of the police in downtown now that's probably the safest area in Hollywood, I would even walk around there with a hundred dollars taped to my ass now that there are so many police (well not really lol), but a lot of the crime from downtown got shoved south and ESPECIALLY north of it (in fact they did a new story about it today). You wouldn't catch me dead there at night south and not even during the day north. Lots of transients and sleazy motels in Hollywood between Dania and Young's Circle.

And if you live "A block from Ft. Lauderdale" in Hollywood, I guess you live in Port Everglades or the airport? Because almost anything residential between Ft. Lauderdale and the airport is in Dania Beach, which IMO is one weird little town that looks like the 60s and feels like the 80s. SE Broward is generally pretty worn unless you are east of US1, and the pockets that aren't tend to have their fair share of problems.

You say that the laborers only dream of having what you do...actually, when I've labored in rich folks' home, the only feeling it has inspired is DISGUST....not ENVY.
