Lol, I think he must be. Immokolee has always been a farm town with TONS of migrant residents. Not exactly the center of civilization over there!

The only thing nice about Immokalee is the Seminole Casino. Personally, I can't understand why that is in Immokalee! Immokalee and Lehigh Acres are two of the worse crime-ridden areas of Southwest Florida (after Fort Myers)!

And that (not trying to sound racist here) is the reason I think Immokalee has so much crime. The people are poor and the need the money, so they go and rob. Just like I said earlier, crime depends on the people that make the town. Naples is a richy town, they crime is low. Immokalee and Lehigh Acres are poor towns, there crime is high.

A problem with high migrant areas is actually also that they tend to carry a lot of cash on them, which makes them ripe for robberies and muggings.

This was my post, when I borrowed a relative's account. I wanted to add that earlier this year I stepped outside and noticed a man and woman stealing the neighbor's air conditioner, and most of the people I know are on drugs. Could go on, but not going to.
What I mean by inland is "inland area of the county" near Polk.

That's true, which is why Immokalee among others is high in crime.
What I can't understand is why the Seminole Casino is in Immokalee when Immokalee is like it is. You would think that they would most it elsewhere, like Bonita Springs- that's a good area.

They don't put usually casinos in "good areas"...
They usually BUILD casinos out of DESPAIR for economic opportunity. Either that, or they build them on indian reservations where they are lawfully allowed to do so.

Yes Compelled, you are right. When I was up in Mass last winter they were looking to build a casino at my end of the state. Well they were going to put it in either a dead town at the end of the state out in the middle of nowhere, or in Holyoke which is a crime ridden dumpy area. Then the problems the casinos will carry(hookers, drugs, etc.) (NOT ALL CASINOS BRING THIS MIND YOU) will already be in a not so good area.

I've lived in FL for 14 years. The first 2 were on Sanibel Island, which is very safe, unless you run into a hungry alligator at night. Very low crime. Captiva is also very safe. Both are very expensive areas in which to live and far from the mainland if you need to work in Fort Myers or Naples.
I now live in Bonita Springs near the beach and feel very safe. Although there are undesirable sections in most cities, and one always needs to use common sense, it's a fairly sleepy town except for some areas around Old 41. In 1999 my home was burglarized, but I'm pretty sure the thief was a local kid who had a drug problem. I haven't had any trouble since then. Still, if I bought a home, I'd probably want it to be in a gated community, although it's usually pretty quiet around here.

I have not locked my doors in the last 3 places I've lived.
Others in the forum have said the same (I think VeroBeachMom)
None of the places I lived in were in gated communities.
Coral Gables.
Mt Dora.
Jupiter Island.

There are many safe places in Fl.

That's a very dangerous thing to do. Even if the town is the safest place on the planet, I would still lock my doors because you never know when you will get some weirdo going around trying to get into houses or something. I agree that there any many safe places in Florida, but I would still lock my door to prevent trouble to arising.
