Wow, old thread . . . anyway, re the OP, some people think that loud music and loud people is part of what "unsafe" refers to? Wha?

That really doesn't qualify that area as bad. A bad area is an area that is crime-filled, dumpy, kinda poor- that sort of thing. Just because people play loud music or are loud doesn't specifically qualify that area as bad. The reason that I said "specifically" is because there could be certain circumstances behind those people. If they are trashy people and there are a lot of them, then you might be in a bad area.
That also doesn't qualify Florida as unsafe because it might be loud. Again, it really depends on the crime in the area and if it is dumpy, and believe me in Florida, you will know if you are in a bad area. It will show.

If you're OK with a little it of a drive, Winter Haven, FL makes for a safe and quiet home base with relatively quick access to Tampa and Orlando.

I dont think anywhere is great! I do think there are many good places. Navarre has alow crime rate, nice beaches, there is night life but you drive 20 minutes either west or east to get to it, but we are not in a secluded area as it may sound it is on the coast. Housing prices right now are great. However you can purchase right now and get a note for the same price you can get a good house in a good area. Holley by the Sea Subdivision has a great multi million dollar recreational facility that only the homeowners has access to plus a boat ramp and private beach (the private beach needs work - not the white sugar sand you would expect but that is because it is on the intracoastal waterway and not the gulf - but it is there for you if you want to use it and people do with and for the kids and rv camping for your family at the water as well.) check it out! Research it ... Holly by the sea in Navarre Florida or contact me for info.

Tampa is home to me

I agree, Clearwater (like most of Pinellas County) has problems, but my brother lives in Clearwater and has lived in Clearwater for over 25 years and loves it as much today as he did 25 years ago. In fact, he wants me to live there, although there's no way I'm moving there! I like the Suncoast too much, but I digress.
Let me just say now that I think Tampa is the dumpiest looking place I've ever has the displeasure of being in. Every street is dumpy, and the people are not friendly at all. Crime is everywhere in Tampa, and all you here on the news EVERY day. You have Adventure Island and Busch Gardens in Tampa, and they are nice, but that is about the only thing nice in Tampa. Just look at the areas around both, they are dumpy. It's a dumpy, crappy, crime-ridden, sorry excuse for a city. I wouldn't live there, I don't even like driving through it.
St. Petersburg is not my favorite city because I think it is too busy. Too many businesses, but there are a few nice places in St. Pete. Crime in St. Pete isn't great, pretty lousy if you ask me, but better than Tampa, and it is more attractive than Tampa. I wouldn't live here, but I would rather live here than Tampa.
Not necessarily, for example look at Immokalee. Immokalee is inland and the crime there is horridness. It's just the people I think that make the crime what it is. Sarasota and Naples have decent people, therefore the crime in both places in decent. Tampa and St. Petersburg have crappy, dumpy people, and the crime there is awful.

Hello all, I am one of the dumpy, crappy people who live in Tampa. Temple Terrace to be specific. Don't stay at the hotels on Busch Blvd, go on over to Fletcher Ave, they have wonderful, new and affordable hotels up there. Try out Lowery Park Zoo when you are here and also try out Lettuce Lake Park for walking. One of my favorite things to do is canoe down the Hillsborough River.
So, if you are looking for dumpy and crappy, that is what you will find, if you look for the beauty, you will find the beauty.

Hmmm.... I think we're beginning to make progress understanding where you're coming from. This post and your bizarre insistence that people are buying guns because crime is "out of control" despite the fact that it's dropped overall throughout the state since the 1990s...... do you have an irrational fear of crime and personal safety paranoia issues that drove you out of Florida and into the Frozen countryside? Are we dealing with a shut-in?
Vero Beach is a safe place to live. Maybe not as safe as BFE Minnesota, but come on!

Here are some statistics about crime in your state you may want to review for your own protection. Crime is not down in your state, it is on the rise.
