Spring Hill retail center breaks ground

Development of Nature Coast Commons, a 350,000-square-foot retail center in Hernando County, is now under way.

Opus South, a Tampa-based division of the Opus Group, broke ground on the project Tuesday at its 42-acre site along U.S. 19 south of Spring Hill Drive. The center is projected for completion early next year and will be anchored by a 104,000-square-foot JCPenney department store.

Commitments are in place or under way for other tenants including an electronics retailer, bookstore, supermarket, an arts and crafts retailer and fashion boutiques. Outparcels may include restaurants, a coffee shop and a bank.
"Spring Hill is a well-established community which has been underserved from a retail perspective," Dan Morris, Opus South director of real estate, said in a release. Colliers Arnold is handling marketing and leasing at Nature Coast Commons.

Opus South, which has developed more than 27 million square feet of space, is currently developing three other major retail projects in Florida: The Shoppes at Four Corners in Davenport, and The Shoppes of Gulf Coast and Market Place at the Preserve, both in Fort Myers. It is also developing 400 Beach Drive, a 92-unit residential condominium tower with a retail component along Beach Drive in downtown St. Petersburg.

Opus Group, based in Minneapolis, is a $2.1 billion real estate development company with four other regional companies in addition to Opus South.

Thanks for the link, Mike and yes, this is old news as that project's come to a screeching halt...which is sad as the hard and expensive work has been completed (under ground/underfloor layer/level). Construction people/builders are just waiting for the "go-ahead" to carry on. When given, those stores will go up in three months or so and SH will have a beautiful new mall for Holiday 2008. Alone, look at all the jobs and "joy" that will create for the area. SH is a great home town...or can be and some are screwing it up for you all.

A bunch of you business folk, residents and Powers That Be need to get on the Big Guys to get moving on the project. Once it's off and running, it'll benefit all the way around...if you get my drift. Say nothing and you get exactly that.

P.S. - It's summer and college kids etc. are bored. Have some responsible kids, oldsters, *realtors* collect signatures at churches, bars whatever. Get petitions passed out, have residents sign up. Send copies to The Big Guys. All of them.

Which one is stopped?
I was just coming up the Suncoast Pkwy from Tampa today and Kohl's looks almost done and they have been working every day that I pass by Nature Coast Commons.
