Brooksville Area Inquiry
Does anyone have information for Brooksville? I do not like crowded beaches, Spring Breakers, or alot of pomp and circumstance. Just a quiet little place to relax and work on a tan. This area seems to be what I am lookng for as it is bordered by the Withlacoochie National Forest and a Manatee Wildlife Reserve. How much can it grow?...right or no? I am searching for the last town in Florida that is not a major tourst destination, but not a slum either. Searching from a distance is difficult, so I thought I would ask for friendly input!

Brooksville is a small rural city located in Hernando county, about 30 miles inland. It is halfway between US 19 and I-75. It is an old southern town, that has charm and is not too big. Recently, the county as a hole has gotten more new residents and so has brooksville. I live in spring hill which is west of brooksville and has a population of around ~70,000+, but it is not a city. You mentioned that you dont like crowded beaches, well the spring breakers do not visit here as there is only 1 real beach called pine island. Clearwater beach where the spring breakers go is just over an hour south on the parkway.
Pine island is cute, but it is small and during the summer, if you are not there by 10, the parking lot fills up. There is also rogers park, which is on the weeki wachee river, but that water is 72 degrees year round and some might consider that cold. It also has a small parking lot and can fill up early. There are also other neat spots, but I dont want to advertise them on a global board, they are our "local" secrets. Having lived here for the last 10 years, the area certainly has changed, but there are still some quiet little places left for you. If you need specific advice or have more questions, send a PM....

You also need to check out if you can get home insurance. All of pasco is
on a non renew status. You might get stuck with Citizens. do a google search and put in Citizens and pasco county

Brooksville is a quiet charming town with lots of trees and some hilly roads. It's a great place. We recently drove out there (haven't been in about 2-3 years) and was totally shocked at how many new subdivisions are creeping out that way! If you are looking for someplace that isn't going to be developed in the next 10 years... I don't know. They built this new highway that goes straight from Tampa to Brooksville, so now the developers are putting in new communities along that road, from Tampa up. They haven't gone as far as Brooksville yet but you can see what will be coming Although, until they get that far, it would be a nice quiet place to call home

Just in case anyone was curious, thats the suncoast parkway, it runs from the end of the veterans in hillsborough and continues to US 98 in citrus county. Part 2 of the parkway is still in the planning stages, and with the current fight against it, it may never get built....

Do you know how far they plan to extend it when it is "complete"? Will it go beyond Citrus?

Check out http://www.suncoastparkway2.com/ It has maps and details about the project. Locally, I have not heard any recents news about it. There is much more resistance to this part of the parkway than the first.

Brooksville/Spring Hill
My daughter and her fiance recently moved to this area, but aren't having much luck meeting people or finding places to go for people in their early to mid 20's. Any suggestions?

Join a church, bowling league, or a club? Look in the spring hill flyer(it comes in the mail once a month) it lists a bunch of clubs/ activities that they could join. How about Martial arts, dancing or other activities? Find out whay they like to do, and there most likely is an existing club, if not how about they start their own???

1. All of Pasco is not on non-renew status. I have clients getting new policies all the time and I just renewed mine in Wesley Chapel
2. Brooksville is in Hernando County.
