72 to 27% so far. Sounds about right considering 1 in 4 US homes get burglarized...

Default Almost too many to count

We lived in Miami for almost 15 years - in that time the following happened:

1993 - apt broken in to through back door - electronics stolen
1994 - I was a store manager - someone threw a brick through the store window & made off with 1/3 of my inventory - this was at Suniland Plaza in Pinecrest
1996 - truck stolen from front of house (Schenley park area)
1997 - neighbors arrested for burglary (of several neighborhood homes) & drug possession - 7 police vehicles in front yard (Palmetto bay)
2007 - our warehouse broken in to - by a former employee - cut fence, pried open back door - stole all computers, business records & $20k inventory - the day before I finalized the sale of my business (Kendall)
2007 - husband's work truck broken in to - used garage door opener to access garage - stole laptop & vaious other items in garage (Palmetto Bay)

Although I think we lived in one of the nicest areas of Miami - we were far from immune to crime.

Eek...you lived next door to burglars. I always wonder where burglars live since they literally seem to be everywhere.

My Tampa home was burglarized once in ~1993. The burglars were never caught. DH and I think it was teenagers from our daughter's high school. They took a small amount of cash from our bedroom, a Nintendo with games & other small electronics, and my great grandfather's Civil War pistol. The pistol is the only thing we were unable to replace and it still makes me sad to this day. We had a small dog that apparently was kicked in the process, but he wasn't hurt badly thank goodness.

We also were victims of a car theft in the mid-90's as well (92 Honda Accord; man I loved that car!). Hubby had walked the dog at 7:30am, kids at the bus stop, broad daylight, etc. but when I went to leave for work at 8:00am, it was gone. No one saw a thing! The car was later recovered as part of a sting in San Juan, PR.

I just remembered that my husband had 2 Trans Ams and 1 Firebird stolen in Miami during a period of 6 years. One of the Trans Ams was stolen twice. After that, he bought a cheap pickup.

In college in Balitmore our neighbors broke in and stole our jewlery, vacuum, cd's, camera and checkbooks. In NY my parents had a few cars stolen through the years. Someone tried to steal DH's motorcycle in our parking deck in MA but there was a lock on the wheel. Here in FL there are lots of drunk kiddie crime in our area (keyed cars, destroyed Christmas decorations, smoking pot, hit and run, etc..) We did have the mailbox broken into- that is a big crime here with condo /po boxes.

I wouldn't consider that a crime.

I lived in the Jacksonville Beach area. The only theft I had was a couple of times when kids were skipping school and picked my house to hang out in. They trashed the place, drank my beer, and ate all my Hot Pockets. I worked it out with their parents after my own kids found out who had done it.

I now live in the Gainesville area in north central Florida and have never had any problems but I did have my home burglarized once when I lived in Miami.

Fortunatley for me I am a German Shepard owner and my 105 lb shepard was at home waiting for someone to come by and pay him a visit. I didn't lose a thing and the only major damage done was to my fence where the burglars left in a hurry!!

That was years ago and that great shepard has passed on but will never be forgotten.
