I know they say no pets are allowed, but I have found that some residents have cats. Are "indoor only" pets allowed? Specifically, we have a small chihuahua that is and always has been litter trained. He does not go outdoors unless it's to visit the vet. So I guess the question I have is, are "indoor only" pets allowed?

Anyplace that prides themselves on being pet-free is going to be an unpleasant place to live as a pet owner and wouldn't recommend trying to get around that. Surely there are other places to live that value pet ownership.

That really didn't answer my question. Do you live in this community? If so, do you know if they allow "indoor only" animals?

No, I do not live there, and wouldn't dream of it. From their website...

"Hawthorne is a non-rental, pet-free community."

Which would probably cover indoors and outdoors since it's stated minus exclusions.

Let me redirect the question to residents who actually live there. "Do they allow "indoor only pets?" I ask only because I know of residents there that have indoor cats.

Pet-free would indicate that those harboring indoor cats (or dogs) are breaking the rules and subject to heaven knows what if discovered. What's the mystery here??

That'd be a good question to ask those residents who have cats.

And THAT is my question, directed to residents who actually live they and would know the answer.
Too many other people that don't live there, seem to have opinions, that quite frankly, I am not interested in.
So thank you Travelassie, for further clarifying my request.

Are you planning to dress up your chihuahua as a cat?

Default Pets at Hawthorne

Birds are allowed. People have service dogs that have to be approved by the board. People do have cats but they keep them "hidden" so what life is that. I have not seen any cats but I have been told that some are in homes. I am a resident. I picked this place because every time I went to pet friendly places or areas designated pet friendly there were barking dogs. I like animals but I lived next to a dog that barked all night and I was not amused. As to being non rental, I wish we could rent but I would hate it to become like the villages where people are renting out huge amounts of homes and you have all that coming and going constantly.Hawthorne is a nice place if it fits what you want. There is a lot to do. You get a lot of extra services that can allow you to stay in your home as you age.
