There will be scammers and lazies in any society. Some welfare is wasted, the rest is a helpful safety net.

But corporate welfare is a huge problem also. As is the utter waste in the defense industry.

I wonder how the $$ of waste in the defense industry and other corporate welfare stacks up against what we spend for social welfare?

For some reason the thought of a welfare person scamming a little and eating steak for dinner does not upset me as much as the thought of a defense contractor charging $1000 for a hammer and the CEO making $50 million a year!

True. Its also amazing how they can go after small people who cheat a little on their taxes, yet these lawmakers just have to have these luxurious jets and $3000/night hotels just to play golf. This country is disgusting.

I remember Reagan ran on the "welfare queen" commercials. He had many convinced that the huge waste was all these welfare people driving Cadillacs and eating steak.

Several investigations found the waste in welfare tiny compared to the waste in other things like the military or corporate breaks.

But many need a boogieman to dislike and focus on. It is easy for the average working person to relate to the fact that some welfare person may be lounging while they are out working. Heck, it bothers me to think about it!

But in the end, the super wealthy know how to manipulate us and take the focus away from the real money being taken from us.

do you mean the services that I pay for through the property taxes that I pay for with the money I earn at my job? yes I use those services. and I also have no problem with sharing if others need help. But that is for those that need help. I dont want to pay any amount towards helping someone use welfare as a life style. I dont care how litlle an amount it is compared to all the other waste. There are many roads to ride to tackle all the waste.

talking about taxes, a couple of months ago i got a certified letter from the IRS about owing 253.40.this is the kind of c@#P that really get's under my skin.this is also why when i get a customer in my office who tells me they're not working but would like to buy a car, and i'm looking at his wife with 3 kids "with another one on the way".i've got 2 of my own and we're both working and i can barely keep up.i guess my 253.40 is going towards the one on the way.

it's fascinating that some people on here apparently believe that we have anything approaching socialism in the US.

Florida, with their service-based economy, will virtually collapse during the next serious recession

EXACTLY.

So he's on welfare and he doesn't ride.

I don't see how he's better off than me. I have two cars sitting in my driveway. And I'm not stupid enough to think I can buy a car when I'm out of work.

Let it go.

But pre-qualify these people before they ever get into your office. They were definitely wasting your time, while a qualified buyer might be walking the lot.

I've sold a few cars at some point. In fact, it was in Fort Myers.
