Default Looking for information about Port Charlotte schools, staff and test scores

I am interested in obtaining any and all information that I can, pertaining to the schools in the Port Charlotte, FL area. I am particularily interested in Myakka River Elementary and the middle school the children would attend when leaving this school (middle school.) Info on test scores, general overall opinion of school and staff, crime in area, etc. Thanks for your help.

I tried to post the school grades but it turned into a big jumbled mess. So, I'll just type it out, for the year 2006-2007, Myakka River was an A rated school. I used to live at the corner of Collingswood and Toledo Blade, which is with walking distance to this school. It seemed to be a nice area but it has been a few years ago since I live there. Here is a link to some reviews about Myakka River My children never attended that school (they were to young when we lived there) so I can't give you any personal experiences.

I'm not at work yet so I don't have my map with the school districts on it but if I remember right it would be Murdock Middle. I do believe if you don't like a certain school you can apply for school choice and drive them somewhere else. Port Charlotte Middle would be your other choice.

Here's the school website for PC Middle , Myakka River , Murdock Middle

The website for Charlotte county schools

Here's what City-Data has to say about the schools, Murdock Middle , Port Charlotte Middle and Myakka River Elementary

Hope this gets you started!

My oldest son attends L.A. Ainger Middle School and I personally know the principal at Myakka River and his wife, asst. principal at the high school. Since Mr. Harvey arrived as principal, the school has consistently raised grades and test scores. These schools are some of the best in Charlotte County, Myakka will be gaining students because of a redistricting occurring this August changing the Vineland Elementary boundary. The school has a lot of land surrounding it and few portables. My children have attended west county schools since 2004 and I have been happy with them. My son and my niece love Ainger (the middle school) but you have some drug, meth problems in the community as a whole and it trickles down to the kids and create issues, peer pressure and poor choices. This area is safe as far as random crime, but there have been drug related crimes, like robberies by younger people in the same social circles.

The prices of homes have dropped very low in Englewood and when you have lower prices and lower rents, the problems are coming in and that includes more crime. Similar to what you see in Lehigh and Cape Coral, I can see it happening here unfortunately.
