anybody in NY saying, "you're in my state now, etc.". You are free to be you, and I am free to be me. I have no desire to change "your" state, but you have no right to change ME. I could care less how you "do" things down here, so long as it does not interfer with my rights to live my life as I choose. I CAN choose to live here temporarily and not CONFORM to what YOUR idea of what that lifestyle should be because I am in Florida now. We will move away according to OUR timetable, nobody else's. We also have the right to tell anyone who will listen how we feel about Florida. My husband told his sister flat out that this place is "horrible" (his words) and that we won't be here if she decides to move here year round. You don't hear about him, or the many others, saying the same. There is still word of mouth. They aren't all on the net and this board.

PS. I am going out today and enjoying the weather. It's 55 here in Naples (brrrrrrrr), cloudy, and rainy. I have more energy today than I have had in months. I am going shopping and contributing to YOUR local economy.

To that other poster - no, I will not be miserable when I move back. I was very happy where I was and I will be again, someday.

Hockeymom, I am glad you will be happy when you leave Florida. But from your actions on here you just seem like the kind of person that would get your jollies standing up at a wedding and telling the newly wed couple that they have a better than 50% chance of getting divorced in a year.

They are perfect for each other and I really like him. I have no idea what other weddings I will be going in the near future. When you reach a certain age, there gets to be more funerals than weddings. The comics joke about that, but it really is true.

What's really bad is when you start reading obits in the paper of people you went to school with. Then it gets scary. But I guess this would be off topic now lol

Well, that's because there isn't exactly a large inflow of people from other states in the Tri-State area...while I don't disagree that we should free ourselves from that type of thinking and live whatever lifestyle we want, wherever we want, please be realistic.

Default Wow...lots of negative posts about Florida...

But I'm not surprised that a thread like this would bring out the regular 'moaners'...

You know, it really isn't a matter of northeast vs florida (which IMO, is a silly idea for a thread in the first place...) because it all amounts to what cr*p you're willing to deal with. There's cr*p everywhere, no state is immune to it. You just have to figure out what cr*p you're willing to deal with and what cr*p you're not, and then find that place that has the least annoying cr*p for you and move there!

However, some people can't just pick up and move at a moment's notice because they dislike where they live, (I don't really know of anyone that can) for those people this adds insult to injury because now they're trapped, on top of not being able to deal with the cr*p where they are. That just plain sucks. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Telling someone "You don't like it move out!", sounds good, but in reality, it's a little heartless. I don't agree with most of what the regular 'moaners' post, but that doesn't mean I don't understand their anger.

No one should have to live where they're unhappy. I hope the posters here that are unhappy in Florida, like HockeyMom72, get the opportunities they need to relocate to a place that is their own 'paradise' (paradise can be anywhere) because everyone deserves to find it for themselves.

However, some people can't move no matter what and just want to moan about it, day in, day out. That's just a silly waste of energy if you ask me.

Look, for your own sanity, if you can't change the town you live in, you gotta change yourself.

Life's way too short...find your paradise or change your attitude.

What are you talking about? I live in NYC and I hardly see any real locals. It's people from all over the world or country.

Good post, Siren!! I am one who does not like it in Florida, and have also done my share of complaining, however I am trying to make it better. We found out that we are staying for another year and we are trying to do things like fixing up our home, etc. that will make it better for us here. Yesterday we bought a new flat screen for the lanai! We have promised ourselves that we are going to travel more to other places in Florida and take a cruise since we are so close!
So, despite the things about it that will not change in the near future (weather, schools, snowbirds, illegal imigrants) I have a new attitude about making life better for us here.

That was what we did our last few months in SWFL, Nonative...we took our son to Sanibel every Sunday & stopped at a local deli to get sandwiches. We were beyond miserable in SWFL, but at the same time we just couldn't pack up & leave in a moment's notice...so, there were little things we did to get through it & to make the best of it. My complaining & unhappiness was taking a toll on my husband & my husband's unhappiness was taking a toll on me...so,we figured out what we needed to do. If anything, we learned a lot about communication & each other. I wouldn't go back there if someone paid me to move back there, but I also cannot say I didn't learn from the experience & that yes, there were a few good experiences
