Must be. I recall mid-upper 80s through the fall...about 90 through the summer (usually not above). But the heat index hit 100 almost every day through the summer.

We get 90s and dewpoints in the 70s all summer in Maine too. Summer is hot all up and down the east coast. There is no comfortable place to be in the summer on the eastern seaboard. Sure, the summers are much shorter in the northeast...we are talking weeks instead of months. But when you are comparing it to the 6 months of snow and ice I will deal with a month or 2 more of 90 degree weather.

True, the San Diego area has some nice temperatures. Hawaii also has mostly comfortable temperatures.
Unfortunately both are too far away from our family in the northeast so FL is about the best we can do for our lifestyle.

I assume the SW is probably hotter than other parts of this state.
As an aside, the Pa. Dutch people are not Dutch. That comes from a corruption of the German word for German. Deutsch (?).

I agree, the SW gets hotter. When we lived in Jupiter we rarely saw a temperature over 91-92 degrees. Being between Lake Okeechobee and the ocean helped to keep things breezy and more comfortable.
I let the PA Dutch comment go...that was too funny. Of course, like you said, they are German!!

every single day for 3 months on LI. No way. I seriously doubt that Portland gets hotter than LI in the summer. You get the ocean breezes too. I did not have my a/c running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, during LI summers. Sure, a couple of days in the 90s here and there, but I am not exagerating that the temp here in SW Florida did not drop into the UPPER 80s until late November. It WAS over 90 every day with Heat Index over 100 all that time. Too be fair, the weather people also said the temps were above normal this year, along with below normal rainfall. My lake is now about 4 feet from its banks. It's a very, very bad draught now.
Anyway, as another poster said, it's just plain too damned hot here. I totally agree.

what is the difference?
arguing the difference between 95 and 100 degrees with 99% humidity is laughable. what is the difference? it is all completely and totally miserable.
pa dutch -- yes, i know they are german. But, i live on the edge of pa dutch country and everyone calls them "dutchies". the point is..they are genuinely german. they arent asians, latinos, or illegals pretending to be german. what you see is what you get: Real, bonafide, germans.
what i am getting at is: because the northeast has been around longer, the heritage and history is rich and, most importantly, legitimate. there is just something more authentic about it. Families have dwelled here for generations. When you walk into a mom and pop pizza parlor you can rest assured that and italian guy is going to be behind the counter making pizza. i like that!
and yes, on the gulf coast (locals proudly call it the redneck riveria...that should give you an inkling as to who hangs out there), i have swam next to people attempting to attract sharks! i thought they were just drunk and crazy but when i actually saw sharks in the water, i stopped swimming there.
but, seeing as you have so much confidence in the fishermen and their ability to reason and make judgement calls regarding your safety, by all means...swim!
