Once you pack up & move your entire family down & start working & living in the whatever area you choose...you will see...whether it is a good experience or not so good just depends on the individual.
Wondering why you even posted the question if you seem to want to only hear the "paradise" part? You've seemed to already made your mind from vacations.
I lived in SWFL. You couldn't give me a house to move back there. I hope to never have to fly there for any reason. JMO.
The NE comprises how many states, cities & places? FL is one state with a few major cities & a much more constant weather pattern. Trying to compare apples to oranges. You can't compare. Too many variables in the NE.

I love snow and cold, everyone has their own opinion. So, yes, you will hear me complaining about heat and about having no snow and cold.

Some people love the snow I will grant you that. When it's actually snowing even I think it's great...unless I have to drive in it. But no one that I know of LOVES below zero weather. Plus add on a windchill that makes it about -20 to -30. It's so cold you can't have exposed skin outside for more than a few seconds or you will get frost bite. If the frost bite is bad enough people lose limbs and even can die. Cars don't start. Just today I couldn't get my windows to go down in my car until 20 minutes later when the car warmed up. How can I get my coffee at the drive through if my windows don't go down? (this is why I like the old fashion handle instead of electronic windows)
Then you are lucky if your car even starts. You have to buy a new battery every 4-5 years because of the winters. You do any driving and your car turns white with road salt. They are using this new crap on the roads that's a liquid salt that coats your headlights so it doesn't even look like you have your head lights on.
Now, I can't honestly sit here and say I love 95 degree weather and high humidity...but...I would rather deal with that than the extreme winter for 6 months a year.

The heat is not good for your battery either but I don`t think as bad as cold.
I don`t love 95 degree I agree but much better then months of freezing cold.
When it`s hot I will go swimming or fishing you just have to take it easy.
If your battery lasts 5 years thats not bad, mine are usually needed to be replaced in about 3.

I also didn't mention the extreme oil bills that go with that. Around here they allow people to pre-pay a set price at the start of the winter. You lock in the price and if prices go up you still get the lower price you locked in but if the prices go down you still have to pay the locked in price. Some may even adjust the prices if they go down but I am not sure.
But what's happening now...those people who locked in the prices obviously have saved a lot of money and the oil companies are losing money. So, they are telling people who locked in the lower prices they have no oil to give them but yet they are filling up the people who pay the full going prices.
But your oil bill is a lot higher than your electric would be for your AC. Plus it's not like electric is cheap in the northeast. We average over $100 a month for our place here in Maine for electric.

My dad just replaced the battery in my old car that I sold/gave him and I had the original battery still in it...I bought it in 2000 so it lasted almost 8 years on one battery...I swear that's a record.

Now, I am from DC and it never gets that cold there, I would not want it that cold but I would take a normal seasonal change, like DC, anyday over this crap in Florida. Now, the weather in Florida now is great and we have the doors open, etc. but it is not worth it to have to deal with the summers!

No way in heck am I looking forward to what weekend temps will be here in NE OH.
But we've had a decent winter. Last week it was in the mid50s-60s. This week has been very nice to with temps in the 40s.
The thing is, at least in many areas of "the north" that the "extreme" weather does not last 6 months straight.
I can say from experience that the heat & humidity does last around 5 good months in SWFl if not longer...WEEKS of heat indexes well over 100...
No, what the northern states are being socked with right now is not in any way shape or form pleasant or fun, but...cmon...it is not constant
(though I do have to say that specific states in the NE have seen a nasty winter IMO this particular year)
To each their own It's great we have freedom of choice & to get up & move if we don't like shoveling snow or sweating
