Weather is not everything, it does not take a rocket scientist to know that.

Without a doubt! We moved here because the weather allows us to do all the activities we love. Scuba, snorkeling, fishing, boating, swimming, tennis, golf, beach walks...we are able to do all those things because of the phenomenal weather down here!!

Another great post. The great weather has allowed us to raise fit, active kids who never watch TV. We supplement their schooling as needed. We don't make as much money as we could in other places but the advantages far, far, far outweigh anything negative.
We consider the 30 years we spent up north to have been wasted. To many lost months of cold and gray, cold and flus, kids stuck inside after they get tired of playing in the snow after 30 minutes. Too much time wasted watching TV during the long cold winters.

I think maybe if you are retired, weather is a big factor but for me, although I love the weather in the 70's once in awhile in February, the weather does not make up for the lack of good jobs, the poor wages, the terrible schools and the influx of tourists, some of the reasons why I do not like it. I think for working families with kids, there is more than the weather that has to be considered. At least that is my opinoin and experience.

I have never seen a place that gets sick as often as this area (Broward area). Ever. That's not exclusive to up north, and to an extent I actually find that to be worse down here. I'm glad I work from home now (Why I'm here now), at the office, it would sweep through the office literally every two weeks, year round...and I see people sick here all the time. I wondered how I could even stand to be some of these people, sick so much. While I agree with the big picture, I just had to challenge that. What part of FL are you in?

No need for sarcasm or rudeness, I was simply saying that I think there is more to where you live than the weather. There are jobs, education, economy, healthcare, etc. The reasons I do not like living here go beyond the weather and I think it is important to notice that.
I think it is great that people like the weather here but for me the weather is a minimal issue. Now if I was retired and could play all day and do what I wanted, it would be different, which is why you see a lot of older people here. They do not have to worry about jobs and education.

What about family? I rarely, if ever, see anyone mentioning wanting to relocate b/c of family or mentioning it at all. It's always weather related.
Maybe since I have children now I see life much different & value family much more.
Nothing compares to seeing my sons with their grandparents, aunts, uncles & cousins on a regular basis instead of once a year. No more long distance phone calls on holidays & bdays. Sunday dinners with family members. Just having everyone within reasonable driving distance instead of 26 hour car rides or $300 airplane tickets per person.
Our relocation was based on family, job quality & education..something nonexistent in Fort Myers though if one finds school choice to be valuable I am sure there are many realtors who would love you! Maybe if our family were in FL or even wanted to visit (it was either too expensive to fly; couldn't fly b/c of work; or too hot to enjoy a visit) maybe I'd see SWFL differently.
Regardless, we wanted to be near family. Didn't matter the state or weather or if it was snowing or 100 degrees out. Playing golf in January or snorkeling in April can be done on any vacation. Quality time with family cannot be made up.
For the record, we had to move to FL & were placed in retirement country; that being SWFL. We did all the research; knew what was coming; headed back as soon as we could.
But there were some gorgeous mornings on Sanibel when the tide had not come in yet & we could walk out very far. That was cool.

It was a play on words from a previoius post, pg. 7
'imo it doesn't really take a rocket scientist '
I only said that because PP made the comment above saying that living in Florida was better because of the weather.
The words were not mine originally. I was not trying to be rude, only humorous.
