My wife and are looking for a calm couple days on the beach for the weekend of April 18th and 19th. A place that is not too expensive to fly and stay at and is not full of crazy college kids. It would be nice if there is a fun strip for shopping and stuff but nothing extravagant like ft. Lauderdale. What would you all suggest?

I'd stay at the Bilmar hotel on Treasure Island St Pete, beach and shopping abound particularly Johns Pass.

Check out Pass-A-Grille Beach which is at the southern tip of St Petersburg Beach. It's a quiet "worlds away" kind of place that has a beautiful beach, some great restaurants and even a little main street with shops (Historic 8th Avenue). It's a bit of a secret place that thankfully hasn't been "discovered". The Keystone Motel is a clean more basic old-Florida style of place that's clean and well kept up with reasonable rates for that time of year at around $100 a night.

Ft. Myers Beach is anything but quiet! It is just about the opposite of what the OP said they were looking for.

I agree with the posters suggesting St. Pete beaches -either Pass-a-Grille or John's Pass area. For some reason, St. Pete's beaches fly under the radar. A good thing, IMO.

I did this up around the Jupiter/Juno/Ft. Pierce area. Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact place, but I stayed at a La Quinta or Holiday Inn Express for some $65/night that was right on the beach, and almost no one there, plus the hotel was really clean and nice-looking. There are restaurants around there that are really good, and the whole area is pretty quiet, with endless nice beaches to hang around. I just remember really really needing to relax after a whole year and a half of 70-90hr work weeks, and finding just what I needed there for a long weekend. So that's why I don't remember where it was, because all I did was zone out the entire time. It was also a plus to me that I have a dog and they have a beach not too far away that is dog friendly. It's also a beautiful drive along the coast..

You don't say where you are flying from. But since airfares can vary widely, suggest going to KAYAK - Cheap Flights, Hotels, Airline Tickets, Cheap Tickets, Cheap Travel Deals - Compare Hundreds of Travel Sites At Once and look at fares into Tampa. But wherever you fly, to get a deal you need to book at least 21 days in advance, sometimes 30 to get the best deal.

Tampa has good access to many many beach towns in a 30 minute drive.

Thanks for all of the info guys. Me and the wife are traveling from Baltimore. Do you all know if any of the places out there in St. Petes have shuttles from the airport? I see those cab rides being a little pricey

There's actually an airport that serves St. Pete and Sarasota, I know Jetblue has some flights there and I think Delta and US Air. You'd have to check if any leave from BWI. Also, Siesta Key in Sarasota is ranked as one of the top ten beaches in USA. I can't speak for how much of a party beach it is, but shops and bars across from beach.
