Hello,

I am 45 years old and at that point in my life where I want to relocate and "start my life over". I work in the automobile industry (currently BMW/reception) and hoping I can find similar work in Florida. I am planning on moving to the Hillsborough County area where I have some friends who live there. I will be looking for a one bedroom apartment. This is kind of scary for me, but my life has changed so drastically and I feel like I need to do this. Does anyone have any advice? Is that a safe area? Are there jobs in my field? Its such a big move and would like to have some things lined up before I go. I plan on going around August or maybe even July. I would appreciate any input...

Thank you!!

Welcome to city-data!

Wow thats a BIG MOVE for you....... Some things to consider

People always talk about how great the weather is...

Now if ya like 100º and 90-100% humidity then its the place for you. If ya like violent thunderstorms EVERY day during the spring, summer and fall, its the place...If ya dont mind paying $1200 a month for rent and want to make $8 an hour IF you can find work, its the place...If you like paying 1000s in homeowners insurance, auto insurance and property taxes, its the place...

If you like high crime and rude people, its the place....

My parents want to move there and it scares me because i know its not really a good place to live!!!!! -- VISITING YES,but living all year round?? (I dont want them to end up somewhere worse (wheather I go with them or not (I KNOW I DONT WANNA BE THERE AND IT SCARES ME....... I HAVE LIVED HERE FOR 20+ YEARS and I love it here)))

I'll give you some accurate information that isn't overly-embellished.

Given your experience with a luxury car brand I would say your prospects for similar work are probably pretty good in the Tampa Bay metro. Their are four BMW dealers in the immediate area and would recommend trying to transfer before moving. Having someone in management at your current dealership who likes you contact one of the dealerships here would be the best option in my opinion in terms of securing work beforehand. The Tampa Bay area is beautiful and largely safe though before settling on exactly where, would urge you to try to secure a job first and then look for housing given it's a sprawling area with significant traffic. According to a couple of the salary comparison sites you should expect to make around 30K per year, unless you have more specialized training or a bachelor's degree which could push you more toward 35K-38K in another Administrative support role.
