Hello Florida,

Can I just tell ya how sick and tired I am of this city. I am 36 yrs old, married and mother of two teenagers looking to get out. I lived here my whole life. The people are just NASTY!!! Crime is extremely high and yes the weather sucks. Would like to find a nice place on the West Coast of Fl. Family oriented, good schools, LOW CRIME,NICE PEOPLE!! My husband and myself work in health care so close to hospitals. Looking to rent first. Why Fl. because my father just bought a house in Lakeland and I want to follow him. Please help me out, any leads are appreciated. Thanks

I feel your pain (and know it!). I lived in Philly for 12 years and moved back down here in 2010 to the area I'm suggesting for you, but unfortunately wound up in Central Florida due to family health issues. For an area with great schools and access to a decent sized job market check out Palm Harbor, East Lake, Oldsmar and Safety Harbor which are suburbs on the North/NE side of Clearwater. The immediate Clearwater area has a number of hospital options with Morton Plant Hospital, Mease Countryside Hospital, Morton Plant North Bay Hospital and Mease Dunedin Hospital as well as fairly easy access to a couple of more in neighboring Tampa. The public schools are very good to excellent and the people overall very friendly and there are a lot of safe, family-friendly neighborhoods to choose from that are convenient to the the beaches and all that the second largest metro area in the state has to offer.

I grew up in Philly and left when I was 21.
I love my home town, but leaving was the best thing I ever did. Everyone I grew up with is either dead, in jail, or strung out on drugs. I was able to make a very good life for myself and was even able to purchase a small, very modest house on the water, close to the beach. That is something I never would have dreamed of being able to do in Philly. In Philly, everyone's dream was to someday live in a single family home.
I live in the Tampa Bay Area now. I originally moved to Cape Coral. It was a horrible place for a young single person. For your teenagers sake I would only consider Tampa Bay or the Sarasota area on the west coast. The rest of the west coast, though quite beautiful, is mostly a retirement home
